4x12 cabinet to work well with dual rectifier

I'm looking for advice on which 4x12 cabinet works the best with a dual rectifier for that heavy distorted guitar sound.

Do you want a more midrange or do you want to accentuate that scooped-mid sound that rectos have?

 

The stock Mesa Recto cabs are loaded with Celestion V30s which have an emphasis on midrange frequencies. I assume this is to slightly offset the scooped sound of the amp and make it cut through a mix more (ever notice that that whole scooped-mid sound tends to get swallowed up in a band context?).

 

Mesa also makes cabs loaded with Black Shadows that have more highs and lows than the V30s. These are designed to be paired with their more midrangey Mesa/Boogie amps.

 

Basically, if you want more mids, get a cab loaded with Celestion V30s, Blues or Greenbacks.

 

If you want a cab that will crank more lows and highs, get a cab loaded with Celestion G12T75s, JBLs, or Black Shadows.

yeah I'm going for that whole "Nu-metal" kind of sound.

Any particular brand of cabinet that sounds better though?

Marshall?? Mesa?? Rivera??

As long as it's a quality brand, a 4x12 is pretty much a 4x12. There main differences are the speakers.

 

Marshall, Mesa and Rivera all make great cabs.
