Pick-up wiring

TPM

Recommended Posts

I installed a Lace Sensor in the neck position of my Strat and now with the switch in the neck/mid position I get a VERY thin tone. The middle pick-up is an American Standard (reverse wound, reverse polarity). It works well the the rear Duncon '54 but not with the front Lace. Any ideas??????

Hey, welcome to the Guitar Forum, TPM!

The neck pickup sounds fine by itself, right? But "thin" 'n' weedy and low-volume in combination with the middle-pickup, right?

I'd bet that the new neck pickup is accidentally wired out-of-phase with the others; reverse the two wires- that is, swap their conections, and see if that doesn't restore it to normal, healthy, full tone operation.

Here's a link, "Understanding Guitar Wiring" (free information, courtesy of Stewart-MacDonald), that you may find useful.
