POLL - If I put out a link to a song of mine would you give it a listen????

I made a studio demo YEARS ago with an old band I had. The singing leaves a bit to be desired, but that was the style back then. It's a bit heavy, some say like old Judas Priest. The song is not elaborate and technical by any stretch, but since I just converted my cassette tape to MP3, I'd really like a guitarists opinion on my playing, particularly in the solo. All I want is 100% honest feedback with no punches pulled. FYI I can tell you exactly where the solo is, so you don't have to be tortured with the rest of the song if you'd like.

Thanks!

Gary

(Wow, I'm too slow! I thought I was gonna be the first to reply here!)

Oh, man! I can't take any of those choices, none would be true for me!

Sure, I'll listen!

May I humbly suggest...

- Put a link in your "signature line" (edit it in on your "My Profile"-'page)

- Post a link, and all of the details and anything else that you want to add, on the most excellent "Share your music with the forum... THE MASTER MUSIC POST AREA"-thread on the Guitar Forum here (recently bumped up by some coincidence!)

Thanks Caevan and Funk!

Even though only 3 people voted, including myself just so I can see the results, here's the link:

FYI I was the one that voted "depends on how much you pay me".

PLEASE give me your 100% honest opinion on the "Child of Evil" solo. You will NOT offend me in the least since I haven't played my Les Paul "seriously" in over 15 years. I just want some "real" guitarists' opinions. The solo is just a hair under 2 minutes into the song and don't laugh too much at the singer. BTW, he had that voice and looked like a fat Ronald McDonald ;)

If you want to listen to "Take it to 'em boyz" (the song that actually had airplay on some local metal radio stations years ago), please feel free and let me know you're opinion on that too.

Thanks again!!

Alright, fair is fair; I'll post here, as well, about your mp3 clip "Child of Evil". But I also think that you should change the topic-title of this thread to "Can A '78 Les Paul Custom Make A Good Tool for Metal?" ;)

(By the way, I had repeated interuptions as I tried to download this, and then was "away" (in the real world) for a while there; sorry, I wasn't ignoring you...)

O.K., cosmo115, if you hadn't listened to Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, and Man O' War around the time that you recorded that, you surely were listening to someone similar! That's definitely "Time Capsule" material, huh? When did you do that? And, that's your Wine-Red Les Paul Custom, right? Through a Marshall and Marshall cab(s), or what? Oh- and was this before, or after the Kahler got installed?

This may well sound like a left-handed compliment, but the solo is probably the best thing going there; although the tone of the riffin' is nailed, too. Anyways, the solo's fine, although the delay tends to muddy-up and obscure the faster, scalar triplet passages.

What's the funny sound going on at about 2:45.5 or so? Just some flange and delay effects on the drums, or something else?

Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do?

Thanks for the opinion. I'll quote myself from above "The song is not elaborate and technical by any stretch". I believe it was done in 1986. Timeless, no?? ;)

It was with my "black" post-Kahler Les Paul. The song was done through a Marshall and the solo was done through my GK at the time.

The studio guys had fun with the effects on the drums and vocals, but the guitar and bass were pretty much straight except for the GK echo maybe. The funny sound was some harmonics hidden by some drum effects. Not that I'd subject you to the other song, but if you did hear it there's a part after "take it" that many people thought we added keyboards to, but it was straight guitar through the GK.

Thanks again for taking the time!!!

I'm sorry! Somewhere along the line I was under the impression that yours was Wine Red, not Ebony Gloss. My opologies; I do generally try to sweat the details!

I remember now- I know how I got that mixed up! It was that picture of Cowbell Allen's Wine Red Les Paul Custom, that's what it was; I think it was even on one of yur threads, cosmo'.

This is easy... if you're great I'm inspired to sort my own act out and get something posted. If you suck... well I'm inspired to get some of my own stuff posted to inspire you. If you're somewhere in the middle... I'm inspired by the knowledge that there are more people out there like me who aren't great but have great moments and can also slip into the ditch of self indulgence from time to time.

It's art.

It's a very human thing.

How does anyone ever lose by sharing? :thu:

I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.

I believe I have two polls out, but I find it an interesting way to get a quick and easy opinion for those who don't like typing.

If you like my two polls, wait for my poll on who likes my polls ;)

Please see the attached self-explanatory thread:

I'm absoultely shocked that the thread exists since I honestly did not pay or blackmail these people, but any of you "real" guitarists out there that listened to my solo (THANK YOU!) and if you can please respond to these guys!

Thanks again!
