madgrinder
It's a Squier S-73...mahogany body and neck, set-neck, tune-o-matic, dual humbuckers, and available in red or black. (trying to attach pic) http://images.misupply.com/products/original/Squier/41962.jpg It fits every aspect of my "necessary parts" list for guitars I love. Bonus: less than $400 available at MF and Music123. Has anyone played one??? I've NEVER seen a Fender product with a set neck before... ...it's Mr Stabby, da da da da da daaaah, da da da da da da daaaah...
A String
I personally don't like Squires, but I have a few friends that do...To each his own. I suppose the only way to know if you like them or not is to try one out. Head over to your local music store and see if they have a few you can try out. Tedster
Looks like a direct result of Fender's association with Guild. Guild had an SG style solidbody...virtually identical to the Squier...several years ago. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
Bbach1
Go for it if you like it. You don't have to spend a couple G's for a nice axe. I have a Tradition Paul Reed Pro that I bought new for $400. The neck and middle pups can be played full or tapped. The different sounds between the three pups and the full/tapped settings allows for eleven different preset tones to work with without touching the tone control. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is a flattop and I love the archtop look. IMHO, it's one to keep because it was inexpensive and offers a sound so different than the Les Paul (Hamer) sound that I covet. Moral of the story, don't let a low price scare you away. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
Tedster
Yeah, it's a copy of a Guild "Polara"...Guild's SG-style guit fiddle... http://i14.ebayimg.com/02/i/01/ef/5d/c0_3.JPG "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
Werewolf by Night
Yeah, I believe that Fender/Guild had put the same exact guitar out not too long ago under the "DeArmond"-name, now discontinued. You might even be able to score the same guitar- with the previous name on its headstock- for a lot less than that in a "blow-out" type stock reduction, if anyone still has some of them. It is essentially a budget-version of a Guild S100 Polara, which in turn really was in essence a fair copy of Gibson's SG guitars. But I must ask you- how can you decide for sure that you "like" a given guitar, at any price at all, without having actually tried one out in your own hands? If you're very much a beginner, take someone you know (if you do) who's a little more accomplished on guitar to play some for you, as well as trying them out for yourself. Hit some stores, the big names, chains, and Mom 'n' Pops, all of 'em! I'm not against mail/internet-order retailers, but I don't think that's always a good way to go for a first guitar for a beginner! ________________________________________________ Tedster- I type too long, too slowly!
