Norm Guitar
I am trying to convert midi to audio by using the GR 33. I have the midi out of my sequencer connected to the midi in of the GR33 and local control set to OFF. I can see the midi going in but cannot get any audio output. I didn't find any info or connections in the owner's manual. Can anyone help? Norm Guitar
Werewolf by Night
A humble, tentative little guess (I'm kinda out of my element with MIDI, little experience)- is everything set to the same MIDI-channel? Norm Guitaranother duh question: There are L&R Audio 1/4" outputs on the rear - do you have those connected to a couple of inputs on your mixer/soundcard/amp? jlh
You might indeed have to plug those audio inputs in. I looked on the Roland site, but couldn't find any good midi documentation. Maybe I can reason it out a bit. The GR33 takes guitar in through the 12 pin connector and puts sound out (through the audio jacks) and maybe, I'm not sure, also midi note and control data. If the 33 can respond to midi note on/off messages too, audio should come from the audio outputs reflecting its input from the sequencer. If you don't know for sure look at the manual's midi implementation chart and make sure the 33 responds to midi note on/off messages. If it doesn't your idea won't work anyway. And do check those channels or set the receive channel on the 33 to omni. Good luck, Jamie But never fear, you're safe with me... Well maybe. - Les

Since the GR 33 is based upon a Roland keyboard synth, I'm guessing that it will play back MIDI. In setup, you are probably set up to accept 6 channels of input from the hex pickup. You might have to set the control channel to channel 1, and make sure that you are sending control info on channel 1. The thing that you probably 'get' (as you have a synth)but I never did, was the Roland Patch idea. The Proteus stuff made perfect sense to me, but the Roland gear always aggravated me... I don't want 6 sounds playing at once from some patch, I want to select the instruments from MIDI channels and play them that way. Anyway, once you know that you have audio out, and the volumes up, and the control channels matched, you should be in business.
