Hmmmm...Odd Washburn Axe

Guitar Geezer

Recommended Posts

Never seen one like this before (in recent memory). It's not listed on their site, and googling has not popped up anything.

Brief description: a neck thru, multi laminated, wood body with a hardtail string thru bridge system, 3 by 3 tuners, double cutaway, two humbuckers, tag says made in Vietnam.

The closest thing that I can find is this bass.

Nice feel, slim neck, not TOO heavy, price is $279. Any of you Guitar Store addicts seen one?

[oh yeah..model number says SB-15 NM]

Does it have one of those 2-Tek bridges on it? With the tuned/separate string bridges get-up, like a non-moveable Strat-trem?

Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do?

How do you like the sound of it, especially unplugged?

I was always curious about those bridges, even spoke to the guy behind 'em on the phone once years ago; but when they stated that they would be a poor choice for a 335-styled axe, I figured they might isolate the strings from the body-wood too much for my tastes. And, theyr'e pretty irreversible, with all of the routing required...

But, depending on their tonal qualities, one might be just the ticket when designing and building an axe from the ground up!

Whaddya have to report on it there, Geeze'??

Sorry bout that...had to deal with a client

It's really not a "2-Tek big mass of steel" but it is a chunky Stop type / string thru ferrule.

The unplugged tone is thick and very "sustainy" Which makes sense with a neck thru body. Plays alot like a Washburn Idol on steroids. Will go back and try to plug it in this weekend.

Back to my reason for posting...Never seen this model before - it is NEW BTW (3 in the store)-. Matter of fact, haven't seen a "composite striped neck thru on a production guitar in quite a while (except Carvin).

Looks kinda like this with even horns

The MOP Washburn on the headstock didn't look quite right either. So I'm thinking "Knockoff"????? Dont know! This particlular small chain has it's corporation based in Belize or somewhere down there, and has been rumored to "Import" interesting items and ship them up here across the border.
