New Strings

I had band practice last night (I keep meaning to start a thread about that...). Tuesday I put a brand new set of strings on my guitar. The old ones didn't seem that bad, but I decided it was time.

Wow!

It was an absolute dream playing last night! There are certainly better things in life than a new set of strings, but it's got to be up there in the top 10 or so!

:D:D:D

(Just wanted to share).

OK, it's starting to become a habit here of people bragging about their GREAT strings without giving any details!

You better tell us what kind you got!!! :P

DR Pure Blues (0.010).

They're the same strings that I've been using for a while (and I really like 'em). I was just commenting on how nice a fresh set feels. You never think the old ones are in particularly bad shape until you put the new ones on. Then it's just pure bliss.

Thanx for sharing! I'm glad you some that you like. That can be hard at times.

BTW, I know there have been a bunch of threads on various brands of strings, but I'll reiterate here.

What I like most about DR Pure Blues is the tone. They manage to have a nice, crisp sound, but aren't "thin". Supposedly this is due to the fact that they use a round core, rather than a hex core (honestly, I've really got no idea why this would make a difference...). I guess the best way to describe the sound is "very full".

I also like the feel of these strings. When I switched to these (I used to use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's) I didn't change my string gauge, but somehow they felt lighter. Bending is easier and smoother. Maybe it has something to do with the materials used??

Anyway, for anyone out there who is thinking of switching brands, I whole heartedly suggest giving these a try. :thu:

I have a set of some handmade strings that I`m waiting to try out, never heard of em before but I`m not going to throw out a relatively new set just to put them on. Still, really looking forward to a field test. They`re called Caribe, haven`t found them online but I posted their number and address a while back.

I've been playing Dean Markley's for years and years and love them. However, I recently put DR's on my ASAT and Sheraton, and they are now my favorite string. Didn't love them on my Strat, but it's got EMG actives and that likely affected the overall tonal impact of the DRs there.

They have a great rock/blues tone, the "light top, heavy bottom" set is fantastic to allow excellent rythym work and great lead tone.

On a Les Paul or similar, shorter-than-most-Fenders-scale guitar (standard-pitch/standard-tuned), a new set of DR "Pure Blues" .011" through .050" is absolutely perfect! Fat 'n' full yet still clear and sparkly 'n' zingy, bends are better than ever on any of the wound-strings! 'Full impact' would describe 'em well! I really don't think I'll ever find a better match for a Les Paul.

I used to love the 5150's.

I've used about 8 sets so far. My impression is that they are not quite as bright as Ernie Ball's. As far a holding their tone, It's hard to say since I am a bit fanatical about changing my stings for every gig. I've tried most of the name brand strings out there at one time or another, and they all sound dead to me after a gig.

If I can afford them, D'Addario XL's are the longest lasting strings I have found. If I can't afford them, anything nickel and gauged 9-42 works just fine. Can't stand the sound of stainless steel strings; they create a funny resonance in the low mids that sounds awful to me.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

For what it's worth....... I tried Webstrings on my main guitar and was extremely disapointed. Webstrings had an intolerable volume variance between strings (for me anyway). I've switched to DR (Pure Blues and Tite-Fit, depending upon the application) and am very happy. :D

I have used just about any brand there is on the market, some years ago I used to change strings every two weeks, and I was using 'maxima golds' at that time - pretty expensive addiction, let me tell you ;)

nowadays... I changed strings on my Tele, when I bought it, because the factory strings are just TOO light for me (seems like every maker puts elastic on their guitar instead of strings)and since then I "changed" ONE string, because the old one broke - apart from that, they've been on since February

brands: I used to be the "i'll have the best strings in the shop"-guy now I'm the "i'll have the cheapest strings in the shop as long as they come in separate bags"-guy (I hate it when I break a string and have to untangle a bunch of strings from a plastic bag and THEN try to see the difference in color on a dim (or un-)lit stage

this approach has worked about 5 years for me, and I don't think I sound any worse than before - au contraire, as the French would say ;)

Are you talkin Dean Markley? those are my mainstays if I`m not trying something exotic. I`m a 10-42 guy, no way am I going back to lights.

I used to use Maxima gold too, didn`t need to cxhange them often enough to make it prohibitive but I have a lighter touch than some. Too bad they stopped making them, I saved two sets.

I'm with Khan on these. Been using them exclusively for at least a couple years now, both acoustic and electric. Their service is really fast too. They send 'em thru the mail, but I usually have them within two days of placing the order, and I'm on the opposite coast.

I have the impression that I have to stretch out the plain strings a little more than I do with, say, D'addario's, before the tuning stabilizes, but that's not a biggie to me. Don't have any breakage problems.

I have to change strings at least once a week on guitars that I'm playing, so I can't comment on the strings' long-term tone quality. (Aren't any that last for me.)
