QMan
Myles, I saw the tube adapters in the Fender catalog to allow the use of EL84s instead a 6L6. It said it would cut the power by 70%. First of all, do these work? Second, is there going to be a huge change in tone? I was thinking of using them in a Deluxe Reverb but I don't want to drastically change the tone of the amp. Thanks for all of your work. Joe
QMan
Well it appears that I am an idiot. I meant to post this under Ask Myles. I am going to post it there now as well so if a Moderator would like to delete this, please feel free. Sorry about using up the bandwidth. Werewolf by Night
No problem; there're a few folks around here with experience using similar products (in fact, I didn't know that Fender had these, too) that will likely come along and post here, as well. We quite frequently post such questions both on Myles' thread and on the Forum at large. You'll get a wider variety of insights that way! Teahead
I had the THD Yellow Jackets in my Deville 2x12 for a while. I wouldn't say thay they change the tone of your amp drastically but you definitely lose some of that 6L6 sound. When I put my 6L6s back in, they sounded so good I probably would never have swapped them back again. I sold the amp and got a Vox, but the Deville sounded better to me, with the 6L6s. There is a trade off, of course. The amp will distort at lower volumes and you don't have to worry about scowling sound-mixers and eviction notices when you're hitting that sweet spot! The biggest advantage is, they are quick to install and instantly reversible. Worth a try considering they are less than half the cost of the average attenuator. Tea.
