fantasticsound
Did anyone else catch the new documentary about Jim Croce that aired last night on PBS? (At least it did on Nashville Public Television (NPT)). It was excellent! Written by his widow, Ingrid Croce and produced by Ingrid and there son, A.J. (A damn fine jazz piano player, himself.) It covered some pretty heavily travelled roads of Jim's life, but Ingrid added quite a bit of personal information about Jim's working relationship with his one man backing band.. Maury Muehlheisen. She rightly attributed a good bit of Jim's success to the counterpoint of these two guitar pickers. Jim wrote almost all the material, but the arrangements were a pure collaboration of these two men. In addition, she described some of Jim's thought process behind some of his most popular tunes. Some interesting stories there. And NPT played only some of the DVD. I can't wait to see the rest of it! (If you haven't noticed, I'm a big Jim Croce fan. I've been playing his songs since a few years after he died.) It's easiest to find me on Facebook. A String
I'm sorry I missed it. I think I'll drag out one of my old records, dust it off and give it a good listen... Operator, oh will you help me... antimatter
New show? They had one on VH1 a few years ago that was really good. And just two days ago, I saw a video on VH1 Classics of 'Bad Leroy Brown' which was from some DVD collection that is out. I hinted to my wife what a good Fathers Day gift that would be. I really liked his music. Great songwriter. He left us way too soon.
fantasticsound
I think the DVD you were talking about is the one they aired portions of. And yes, Denise suggested it could be my Father's Day present. The VH-1 documentary was interesting, but they I can't stand how they act as though you haven't been watching and reiterate 2/3 of the last section before moving on, after a commercial. Blue Strat
Jim Croce's Greatest Hits was one of the 8-tracks my mom & dad used to listen to on Saturdays when I was younger. I listened to a lot of that and the Eagles in my formative years, and still love it today. BlueStrat a.k.a.
