Werewolf by Night
Cool free-neo/"modern" jazz sound; I like 'em! I bet some of the rest of you Forummites would, too! Thanks for bringing them to my attention; I was just making a joke in my sig-line! Originally posted by batterypowered: "By the way, Caevan, there's a band from Poland called Pink Freud. They're a free jazz/groove ensemble that also uses electronics... not sure if that means anything to anyone here, but I dig it. I can dig up some samples if anyone wants." The white speaker-looking button is lo-fi play, the yellow one is hi-fi, and the black dot and arrow is download." Teahead
Now that is cool! I love the Nirvana cover, they have a unique sound and mix quite a few styles very well. Eccentric, idiosyncratic and most of all...FUN! Better watch you don't end up in debt to them for a fortune in royalties from that signature Kevin! Tea. Werewolf by Night
Man, next time I buy some CDs, I'll definitely have them at the top of the "must-have"-list; I've benn listening to repeating loops of "My Man's Gone Now" and their cover of "Come As You Are" all afternoon, they're great! At first glance, I assumed the title "My Man's Gone Now" was a lament, worded in the tradition of blues and soul. After listening to the instrumental music, I'm convinced that the intended allusion is one of being powerfully tempted and enticed by an already spoken-for seductress. (I'll leave it up to other listeners to decide if the temptation was conquered or surrendered to...) That's some serious chops, serious musicianship to be able to convey so much meaning and story without vocals or lyrics! And I don't even think there's any guitar; but there's some amazing trumpet-synth or horn-generated effects-manipulation going on!! Everything, the bass, keys, drums, everything is stellar. batterypowered
I was just looking for this I thought it was down farther, and I must have missed it. I'm glad some people are into them, here. I was listening to them some more yesterday. I'm not sure how easily you'll be able to find copies of their albums in North America, though. Mail-order is always an option. Now I'll have to find some similar groups and post more! You'd probably like Freeform Arkestra and Isotope 217 if you liked Pink Freud. More on them later. twoblock.net batterypowered.org
Werewolf by Night
Arkestra... any relation, di-wrecked or inspired, to Sun Ra's Arkestra? batterypowered
Inspired by, I'd say. Freeform Arkestra mixes jazz, rock, and Middle-Eastern influences. It's less on the rock side, more on the improvising. Isotope 217 is much much like Pink Freud. I'll look for samples in awhile. Might not get back to you til tomorrow on that, tho. Celebrating the big two-five today, so I'm gone! OK, nevermind, here\'s some Isotope 217 samples . They were cake to find, The Arkestra may not be. twoblock.net batterypowered.org
