Bbach1
I'm finally at a stage where I'm feeling comfortable building my song repertoire, but I have been seeking a sound I like for clean chord progressions. I have no troubles finding the sound I like for lead or for rock progressions, but I cannot seem to keep my c&w chord progressions sounding clean, especially at higher volumes. I've played with the amp settings and experimented with all three of my electrics. Maybe I need an acoustic to get what I want. I guess what I'm seeking is a real clean open sound to accompany myself on tunes that I like to sing. I realize that most of you don't play c/w music, but feel free to chip in with suggestions anyway. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Corner Pocket
I think I read it on the Kiman Pickup website. I read that "...the singles best tone control for an electric guitar is a phillips screwdriver." I found that lowering the pickups to the point where they look too low opened up the sound of my guitars dramatically. The volume knobs now respond a lot better in that the tone doesn't change drastically as you roll the volume off. I run into a 135W silverface twin, with a tube screamer set with the drive truned down and the level turned up. Switching between pedal on and off, and rolling the volume up and down give me a huge pallate of tones to work with, without tap dancing on a pedal board, or tweaking a lot off knobs on a regular basis. Guitarzan
i always found more tone and sweeter cleans with the pickups low. i don't like them up high, even for high gain sounds. its a lot easier to get country and blues tones with the pickups lowered. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Bobbo
I get my best clean sound through my Fender Pro Reverb. I turn the reverb on the amp to about 3. I run a chorus and a delay pedal through the effects loop. I then set my delay pedal to get just one slap back, but I leave the level setting on the delay pedal low so the slap back can barely be heard. Then I add a small amount of chorus. There's something bout running both the reverb and short delay that gives a great super reverb type clean sound. Then I have to tweak with the EQ knobs on the amp some depending on which guitar I'm using. Sometimes I then have to roll back the tone knob on the guitar if I want a more Jazz sound. Roll it up to more treble for country.

Werewolf by Night
Try a little compression/limiting, too. Smooths out the response, adds sustain while lessening distortion when set right. Experiment with your "touch", with both hands, but especially the picking-hand, just where and how you pick the strings. Can make a world of a difference! Also try experimenting with different settings of the guitar's volume control(s). So... just what do you not like about your clean sound, what do you want more of? Less of?
