As you know I'm new to the board, just checked out Rondo Music website since I've seen it listed a few times here. We don't have this in North Mississippi/Memphis area- all of the discount stuff is Johnson. Anybody played any of these SX or the other guitars Rondo sells? They look pretty darn good! looks like they would make some darn good second or practice axes or whatever. Some of the Strats and Teles are even cheaper than the Saga and Torres kits! With solid alder bodies! Guys?

Johnsons are ok guitars to start on

Our drummer (who was a bassist before) bought his first bass, which was a johnson. And another friend of mine bought a johnson strat model.

They arn't too bad - but not the greatest either. I would personally go for a Squire or a Fender Mexican, they're deffinitally worth the money

But hey, it's your buck

good luck

The SX line is the low end...but not bad for the extreamly low prices!!!

I have 3 Agile guitars that I bought from Rondo, which are their higher end guitars...but still quite inexpensive when you see what you are getting!!!

I would not hesitate to get a 4th or 5th...

Slightly OT (sorry Tiger85)

Miro...how would you describe the "Necks" on the agiles? Are they more "Baseball bat" or thinner like my late 74 Deluxe? And I guess the next question is ...are they the same neck dimensions across the whole line of LP's?

Really lusting for the P90, but can't handle the Baseball bat too well (old time Strat/Ibanez junkie)

Just wondering

(BTW..Denny f picked up an agile if I remember correctly)

Your asking someone who cut his teeth on a '75 Hangstrom Swede...which has one of the slimmest, fastes necks of any guitar I've ever played.

Using that as a reference...I will say that all three of the Agile guitars I bought have very user-friendly necks.

And I don't have big hands or long fingers... :D

Also...the frets on all three were nice and smooth along the edges...no sharp corners.

I guess you can say that the necks are in the shape of a shallow C.

Rondo gives the following neck specs:

Features in common with the 2500, 2800 and 3000 are full body binding, jumbo 2.7mm frets and a 13.7 (350mm) radius neck for fast play, and a beautifully bound neck, headstock and body.

Width of the neck at the nut: 1 10/16", at the 22nd fret 2 3/16". Total length, including strap button: 40". Width of guitar at it's widest point (lower bout) 13" thickness of neck at the first fret approx 11/16". Scale length 24.7"

For the Agile ST-902 (Strat copy) they don't give the neck radius, but the similar 802 model is shown as 254mm:

Fast Rosewood fretboard with 22 jumbo 2.7mm frets

Grover 102-18C tuners with 18-1 turn ration for ultra fine tuning

The angled headstock and stop-tail Tune-O-Matic bridge give this guitar excellent sustain

Width of the neck at the nut: 1 11/16"

Scale length: 25.5"

Have no idea if the AD2200 (Double Cut Jr.) has the same specs as the 2500/2800/3000 models...but that is one of my favorite guitars right now...

...plays like butter and sounds as sweet as honey with its P90's!!!

Thanks for the wealth of info miroslav! Those Agiles do look great. I'll probably start with one of the SX strats until finances improve. Should be a nice back-up to my Am '93 Strat. But, wait, that Tele blond looks pretty good too! :D

The TELE is Awesome!

Alder body and String thru body (which "Most" Squires don't have)...for $109. The DIY Kits can't even come close.

Trust me

I did get a 2500 P-90 Goldtop.

The string spacing at the nut is narrower than the typical Gibson Les Paul, which I feel is generally a bit wider than, say, most Fender necks. It's pretty much the same as my old Ibanez guitars. The neck is "robust," but not huge. It's more rounded and hand-filling than most of my other guitars, but not remarkably so (I like it). It's less clubby than the neck on some original Juniors and Specials I've played.

Hope this was helpful!

Guitar Geezer, that Tele's looking better all the time! Funny, even 10 years ago halfway decent copies ( like Vester) were twice as much. Thanks for the info everyone!

Hi , brand new but had to get in on the Agile, SX discussion. I have a bunch of these things, I originally bought the Cream Tele because I wanted a cream tele to modify. But, when I got it I liked it just the way it was. Well, I thought those Strats look fun,and I picked up a Cream Strat ,maple fingerboard Lefty to flip around to a right handed version of what Hendrix had to deal with. It sounds incredible! Let's face it ,everyone has their idea of what a Strat should sound like , I have an original 61 Strat, and I love the sound of the SX, total strat bright bite and twang especially in the out of phase positions! I must say they need a bit of initial setup. But, the materials are awesome, solid alder, nice maple necks with a sort of rosewood skunk stripe, and a beautiful aged yellowed finish. Before I knew it I was hooked, I now own an Agile Cool Cat "jazz big body guitar with quilted Maple top ($199.00), a CoolCat Presteige with flame maple top back and sides with Wilkenson pickups ($349.00), a Lk. Placid Blue SX Strat with maple neck ($99.00!!), the Cream Tele SX $109.00),Butterscotch Tele ($109.00),that has that transparent finish with nice wide woodgrain that almost looks like ash, but it's alder, the Lefty Cream Strat($99.00), An SX Limited Edition witha HIGHLY flamed neck with rosewood fingerboard and a quilted maple top that came with an awesome case ($159.00!) ,an Agile Goldtop LesPaul with 3 P-90 pickups ($279.00) and I bought the case LP brown, extremely strong and well made! Somebody stop me! I have played guitar a long time, and have owened several Fender Strats (1961), and Gibson guitars (still do) and I totally enjoy these guitars after a minimal setup by your guitar guru they can play like a million bucks, and if you feel you need to modify them, well for a minimal investment you have got a great body and neck (nice big frets!) with a gorgeous finish in the case of the Strat $99.00. Try getting someone to even put that nice a finish on any guitar or neck for $99.00 let alone get the whole guitar. I am glad to see other people are benefitting from these great guitars. Good gosh I've spent more on a vintage pickguard than two of these guitars. Thanks for the thread and good luck in choosing the right guitar for you.
I've got you right where you want me.

For me, it's the *new* 12" radius on the Highway 1 Strat. The first Strat neck I've liked in twenty years. .. but, that's just me and my 2¢ :bor:

A nice 9"? I wasn't going to touch that one...., but actually the older Fenders and some other guitars had something along the lines of a 7 1/2" to 8" radius and those are just fine I agree, but if you like your action low and you like to bend the heck out of notes like I do, that small of a radius causes problems on the strings at the outside of the neck (especially the hi E) unless you crank them up to the same height as the "center of the neck" strings and then they feel too high. Because as you bend a string across a smaller radius you are essentially are dragging them into the neck and they can fret out and buzz. The bigger radius feels great and you can get your action nice and low all the way across the neck and not have to worry about fretting out.I'm not suggesting that's everyone cup of tea but something to keep in mind according to your playing style and preferences. So personally I prefer a flatter neck and a bit wider. I usually have to widen the string spacing at the nut on these SX Strats, they make it a bit too narrow. But once you find that sweet spot they are rock solid.

My Agile AS-820 has a neck that I'd consider thin, with a C-profile and a fairly long radius. A jazz player friend of mine loves it and has commented repeatedly about what a great playing neck it has on it, something he feels is rarely found on cheap guitars. I didn't ask him specifically what he liked about the neck, though. Could've had something to do with its very slick finish, nice level and polished frets, and very smooth, sealed fingerboard.

I feel the same about my Agile Cool Cats necks. Very smooth and I have had similar comments from other guitarists who have picked it up.The neck is smooth and the frets are well polished out to the neck so there's very little or no fret edge friction or grab. Very comfortable. I have bought other new guitars that would tear up your fingers if you slid your hand on the neck, till you had them seated and polished and was surprized at the craftmanship on such an inexpensive guitar.

My Carvin Bolt Kit came with a 14" radius. It fatigued my hand. I ordered and am putting 5 applications of tunge oil on a 9.5" radius Strat replacement neck from USAcustomguitars.com.

I had the local repair shop give the thumbs up on the neck and fret job before applying the oil. They liked it. I thought it looked good, but they have the tools and know how.

Back to Agile: I REALLY want a double cut Agile. They neck radius is a deal breaker for me. They are TOO cool.
