guitarholder
Anyone know if there is a gizmo of somekind that will convert main speaker out jack to either a headphone jack or line out when the family is a sleep?
Caevan O’Shite
Hey, welcome to the Guitar forum, guitarholder You're in luck: though not cheap, there are some most excellent speaker emulators available from both GT Electronics (as in Groove Tubes) and Palmer. I can attest to the wonderful performance of the GT E Speaker Emulator (as will Myles Rose), as I own an old one, the first version. The GT E Sp Emu (I and II) uses a real speaker voice-coil for reactive loading that is toneful and safe, and can be set for 4-, 8-, or 16-ohm operation. It can be used with or without "real" speakers, in parallel or in series. The current model also includes several stages of volume attenuation for "real" speakers, as well. Also included is an EQ-section; and I believe there is also an effects loop! The GT E Sp Emu II is seriously good with Fender amps. When I use mine, I send the mono line-level signal from the Sp Emu to a stereo effects processor and from there to a stereo headphone amp. Also works magic sent to a PA or recording device. Palmer also makes several very pro Speaker Simulators, though I have no first-hand experience with them. You can expect to hear from James-Italy (another Forum member here) on the Palmer, as he owns and loves one. James-Italy
Welcome to the forums guitarholder! I've got the Palmer PGA04 and am really happy so far. Having some nice amps and not being able to crank them up is pretty frustrating. Now I can turn up the amps up to my delight (120w max) and plug the speaker out directy into the Palmer. The Palmer soaks up all the power and give me 3 outs to play with- 1 balanced and 2 unbalanced. Just plug any or all into a mixer and you're all set. There is no headphone out, but I use the headphone jack on my mixer. With this setup I can crank up my VHT Pitbull or JTM45 all the way to 10 and get all the tube distortion I want without peeling paint from the walls.
