John Pizzarelli's very cool guitar

Saw him on Conan last night playing "One Note Samba" on what at first looked like his typical 7 string jazz box (I think he usually plays a Campellione?).

I quickly noticed it had no F holes. Then I noticed it had no tailpiece...because it was a nylon string!

Are you kidding me? An archtop nylon 7 string? I MUST have one! Talk about your perfect guitar for playing bossa nova. I couldn't tell the name on the peghead.

According to Pizzarelli's web site, his instrument maker of choice is Moll Custom Instruments . The Pizzarelli signature model is "only" $4000. Plus $500 for a seven string. That's not the nylon string, must be a brand new development. All I can say is  . Do I really need to spend $4500 on other things (food, housing) this year?

One of Jim Soloway\'s guitars would be a cool alternative.

If you really are short on the bucks, though, Schecter\'s Blackjack 7 string would be a terrific instrument. It's got Duncans; a 59 in the neck, and a JB in the bridge. You could set that up with any strings you want, but if you use Pizzarelli's, you might have to get a new nut, and possibly modify the low B's tuning peg to accommodate the thicker string.

FunkJazz- I'd like to see those, myself!

I won't swear to transmoggrify into a bona-fide classical guitarist, but I'd love to look those over and borrow, tease, and steal a few things! ;):D

Shall I PM you my e-mail address?

Linda Manzer makes a beautiful one, too (then again, everything she makes is probably exceptional). But way out of my league. As is Benedetto. As is ______ (insert name of outstanding luthier here).

Insensatez is my favorite Jobim tune. Never get tired of playing it.

I though John was playing Benedetto archtops. I know he used to endorse them. If you guys are into jazz boxes & 7-string for not alot of money check out www.eastmanguitars.com. Great hand-carved archtops for a fraction of the cost of a Benedetto or the like. They're actually modeled after the Benedetto. They make a 16"(805) & 17"(810,910) body, center soundhole, & 7-string models.
Check out www.tulsaband.com for great prices on gear.

FunkJazz- Cool! Thanks! I'll be checking that out, right away!

TulsaBand- for some reason, your link to Eastman Guitars dead-ended on me; I did a search, and came up with http://www.eastmanguitars.com/ , which went to the 'site like clockwork. (Weird, same address and all. Idunno?)

They certainly do look quite sharp-

And their prices seem pretty reasonable, all things considered.
