A McLeod III
.........and most of you probably know them as Los Lonely Boys. It is refreshing to come across some youngsters (21-25) who actually have some real chops, can play in the pocket and killer voices. Henry, the eldest of the 3 brothers gets a lot of credit for being the Strat weilding leader of the group but man, JoJo is the real musician-holding down the bass line solidly. I've read a lot of bad press about them too-SRV, Santana Clones etc. If you can emulate accurately that genre of music, why complain? Damn all the haters. These kids will actually be around for awhile.........if they choose to. Mad props to 'em. Coming from a very discriminating professional musican and educator as well, I think this speaks well for them. Anybody else here check 'em out yet? doug osborne
They did a set on Austin City Limits. I had never heard of them until then, but man they impressed me. They said that their dad was a musician, and they had been playing with him since they were little. Yes, there was some impressive SRV influence, but also some pop songs, great harmonies, and general good times. TulsaBand
I just got their album last weekend. It's great. SRV & Santana are definately influences but not clones at all. The same has been said about SRV regarding him being a Hendrix clone. It's a bunch of bull. The thing that impressed me the most about Los Lonely Boys was that Henry has that SRV strat tone but has his own identity. He's not trying to be SRV or even play like him. He has a more slowhand aproach to the guitar from what I can tell. Very tasty & plays to the song instead of trying to impress every guitarist out there with his chops. On only one song do they purposfully cop a Santana feel & its a great tune. Some people just can't help but label other. If you like good music & good blues, definately check these guys out. urbanhiker
Willie Nelson was instrumental in their success. He heard them in Nashville and had them open up for him on a couple of tours. Then he let them use his studio to record their cd. I believe he plays on a tune on the album.
blurry6
These guys get the thumbs up here as well,...just great tunes with good chops. These guys are good, I just hope their next effort lives up to their current release - seems like a lot of new bands run out of good material too soon. timrocker
I saw the Austin City Limits show and was instantly hooked. Bought the CD and have had it in steady rotation ever since. I can't rave enough-these guys are the real deal! What they do is vital. Some very cool Hammond sounds on the CD too.
