MadStrum
Hi, I'm what you would call a advanced beginner i guess... and am looking to fill in gaps in my theory and pattern playing... Heard about this book called fretboard logic from Amazon.com, and I thought I would ask you guys first, as I hold the opinions of you guys in high regard. Should I get it? Thanks. henryrobinett
I don't know. I think you should practice. All 7 scale patterns and their arpeggios. If this book has that then yes. That's the only way YOU'LL (or anyone) get fretboard logic. All the best, Henry Robinett
James-Italy
I've got the "Fretboard Logic SE" which is the special edition that includes volume I & II. I didn't get anything from it. It shows you different ways to make the same chord and then the scales. If you are "advanced beginner" like me, then you probably don't need it. One caveat, anything that helps us practice is a good thing. So, if you think the book will help motivate you and push you further down the path then get it. If you think it's gonna show you some magical formula, forget it. Hope that helps! My Gear My Attempts at Music

MadStrum
Ok sounds like i dun really need the book... Don't think that the book will motivate me, (a new guitar will) ...just went through my old guitar lesson handouts and realised how much of it I haven't been practising. (but wouldn't it be great if there were a magic formula in the book ) Pier. * Godin Freeway Classic * Seagull M6 * Timothy S10J
blurry6
I've got the SE-version to, and I definately learned some stuff,...which is always a good thing. Is it the panacia of guitar knowledge? No, but like the previous poster mentioned, anything that gets you practicing is always a good thing. Basically, it's an overview of the CAGED system - which is pretty helpful,...at least to me it was. As a brief summary, for the major-scale (sixth-string root) only, you take the 'chord-forms' for the C.A.G.E.D in the open position,...I'm sure you can play these...Now, starting with an open-"C" chord-form in first position you have , oddly enough, a C chord (duh),...now move up to the third-fret and play a bar-chord "A" chord form,...musically, this is also a C chord,...now move to the fifth-position and play a "G" chord-form (little tricky),...again, musically, you have a C chord, you continue this pattern with E chord-form, D chord-form,...and it repeats C.A.G.E.D, all the way up the neck,...etc. The idea being that you're learning a system to play the same chord in any position on the neck - always handy. It covers majors, minors, and everything in between as well as a lot of backup theory that I was never too clear on - never took a lesson. I think it was worth the money,...but you might be able to track down the same info on the .net if you're diligent, or certainly from a good instructor...I'm too lazy ,...I like to be spoon-fed Learn, as if you will live forever, Live, as if you will die tomorrow
StinkMonkey
I'm a sucker for music books so I don't get bored practicing and can push myself with different styles. I knew there was an easier way to learn the fretboard patterns and although some of my books brushed on the CAGED system Fretboard Logic SE makes it really easy, not only to learn but memorize the fretboard patterns. It's not a 'how to read music' book but it really helped me. So would a good guitar teacher, but at my age I'm too busy and a bit too lazy to drive across town and back after a ten hour day and at least a half day Saturday plus the Fam. It's hard enough to practice every day. Play really loud and everything will be allright.
MadStrum
Hi, here's a really useful graphic based on the CAGED system I found, though it might be useful. http://www.tonydesmarteau.com/caged598.gif Pier. * Godin Freeway Classic * Seagull M6 * Timothy S10J
