madgrinder
The bridge pickup on the S-1 sh** the bed this morning during a 5am thrash. I have SD Invaders in there now, but I was looking at a Dimebucker maybe instead? Roughly the same price, but I can't find anything to play that has dimebuckers so I don't know how they sound. This is my Drop-D "chugger" battle guitar. ...it's Mr Stabby, da da da da da daaaah, da da da da da da daaaah...
revolead
Hmmm...Bluestrat knows more about the Invaders than anyone on this forum, but I have heard they pack a lot of bass. The Dimebuckers are bound to give you a shrillier sound with tons of harmonics. I'm sure both would sound good, but it depends on your guitar. If you have a brighter guitar, I'd go with the Invader, if you have a barker guitar, try the Dimebuckers. And for some other options you might consider a JB, a Distortion, or another high output bridge pup. Most guys who play in drop D these days tend to prefer the Distortion, so that's probably what I'd look at. Shut up and play.
Blue Strat
I haven't tried the Invader next to a Dimebucker, so I can't really say which is better for metal. I think that the Dimebucker is supposed to have a bit more treble than the Invader. They're both high-output with a lot of power. The Invader has a lot of bass and midrange, as well as enough bite to be heard. The Invader is also great for clean humbucker sounds or split for Tele type sounds. BlueStrat a.k.a. synthetic
Thanks to this thread I've spent half the day researching pickups. The SD website has a lot of cool info, including sound samples of a selection of pickups and frequency charts so you can see that pickup X has more bass and less treble, etc. I couldn't find the Dimebucker, though.
