madgrinder
I just wrote a cool riff from your "ASD" intro, there. I left out the S's and the H's, and it sounds like a pretty cool progression. Thanks. BTW...eat some bananas for the tight hands, give it a day or two to work. I am a mechanic for my living and use my hands all day and all night. The bananas will loosen you up a bit. ...it's Mr Stabby, da da da da da daaaah, da da da da da da daaaah...
BlueZet
seems to me it's not just the hands that are tense there relax - RElax - reLAX - RELAX then go get yourself a beer, light a cigarette and relax some more now go and play - due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been SWITCHED OFF
A String
I assume you are referring to the tauntness in your hand when you play quickly. If there is too much tension in your hand, then you are probably trying to play a piece that is too quick for you. Slow down! Play as slow as you need to in order to maintain that "loose" feel. The speed will come with practice. The reason you could play it last week and now can't seem to is because the song is probably right on the edge of your abilities. This is a good sign! This means that you had a good day and were able to play something you normally could not. Keep practicing and soon, instead of being a difficult song you can only play on good days, it will become a song you can play all the time. Good luck, and try to keep the anger in check...frustration is a good sign that it's time to set down your guitar and take a breather. Watch some t.v. or something before picking it up and trying again. Once again, most importantly, Slow Down when you practice! They are high in potassium, and potassium is good for relieving/preventing muscle cramps & stiffness. Great idea, madgrinder! CLotM, I totally understand the frustration. It's the kind of thing that can drive a person sane ( ). The ideas here are good. A combination of practicing at an easier pace until you work back up to (and past) the piece, and finding a way to be more relaxed while playing will do a world of good. The idea of having a beer or two (or three, whatever...) before/while you practice might help you to get over this hurdle. Good luck, man! Shoes
You have the wrong guitar for what you are trying to play at this point in your evolution. What I learn and where I go with it are frequently unrelated and as a result I use different tools for different jobs. I prefer something with nylon strings and a comfy neck, wide body low arm chair and a beer. You might want to try a few beers. I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder. Crow Left of the Murder
i get really frustrated then i get over it quickly. i can and will not "get a new hobby", the reason im even frustrated at all is because i love guitar. if i didnt, i would have just said 'fuck it' and not been frustrated. instead, i put it down, banged some things around, then came back and played other stuff.
