Funk Jazz
Chris Thiele is a helluva mando player. i have an old bluegrass compilation, he was 13 or 14 years old at the time, and it's just plain scary.

Funk Jazz
The manufacturer recommends listening to AC/DC or other appropriate rock music at high volume after every Nickel Creek song. Failure to follow this warning could result in afternoon naps. Do not listen to Nickel Creek while operating heavy machinery. Use Nickel Creek at your own risk. just doing my part to keep the universe in balance. you'd probably dig Alison Krauss & Union Station too. Nickel Creek is directly modeled after their sound. strat0124
I saw em in Charlottesville when they last played, and it was phenom. Although they play traditional bluegrass instruments and have elements of celtic and bluegrass.....far as I'm concerned they are a rock band. Absolutely kickass. I love the way the go totally acoustic at the end of the show and get everyone to listen closely. Love the banter and energy onstage too. Killer..... Tedster
I dig Nickel Creek. "Smoothie Song" kicks ass, especially, and kudos to a few stations that are playing it. The "I Could Spit on a Stranger" tune got a bit old though. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Nickel Creek is directly modeled after their sound. We went to see them last year in a decent club. No one sat down for the entire performance. knunchucksammy
I am sitting in the town they are from, and I have friends that are very good friends with them. I hear that they were homeschooled, and if they weren't then I would have probably known them in High School. (I am talking about Vista California if you didn't know) I am curious as to how such a sound came out of Southern California though, rather interesting in my opinion.... jzgtrguy
Hey if I am not mistaken Allison Krauss produced their first big Album/CD. Best, Jeff PS Dig em! Failure is the path of least persistence.

Outrider
Originally posted by knunchucksammy: I am curious as to how such a sound came out of Southern California though, rather interesting in my opinion....from their website: The band is technically a trio, fiddle player Sara Watkins (22), Guitarist Sean Watkins (26), Mandolin Player Chris Thile (22) - they are supplemented on stage by a bass player--for the summer 2003 tour, he is award-winning "newgrass" veteran Mark Schatz. They met, not surprisingly, through music, when their parents took them to hear a weekly bluegrass show at "That Pizza Place" in Southern California. They have been a band for over 13 years. That means they formed the band when they were all of *nine years old*. All credit given to obsessive Moms & Dads. Cripes...I'm starting to feel that pressure that other kids' parents feel at youth soccer, baseball, etc. Now I gotta go buy The Boy a strat...
