Werewolf by Night
I just get so... happy sometimes when I'm playing! I just love my guitar, the feel of it, the sounds themselves, playing it... I've just gotta gush here! Ain't it great?!!? Ciao, y'all. I'm gonna pick up my guitar now... Wes from Wpg
I agree. Unfortunately I'm at work right now with no git handy. I find it really relaxing after a long day. I don't even have to be playing anything good. Just sitting around playing major scales in the first position is fun and relaxing to me.
LeftyBlues
Oh h-e-e-e-e-e-ll yea it's great! Try giving it up for twenty years or so and then starting over again, I think it's even sweeter, like discovering a long lost love. Daggon work just keeps getting in the way of play time, need at least a partial lottery hit soon. I was born at night but I wasn't born last night... A String
For a lot of us, the guitar is our "outlet". The guitar allows me to vent a lot of things, really pour my soal out. Kev...I do love the guitar. musicalhair
Yeah man, playing either with people or just practicing at home is the best. I love almost as much as I hate not playing. And listening to music in and of itself is very cool too. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. You're breaking the number one rule of successful guitar playing, Caveman! Be careful...the penalty is a banana cream pie a'la Three Stooges... 1. When playing your guitar, you must make faces as though your testicles are being squeezed with barbed wire and you're trying to crap out a football. Watch Stevie Ray Vaughan for an example. 2. Go back and read number one. HAHAHAHA!!!! "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Werewolf by Night
Heh heh heh! Tedster, and Guitarzan! (Obviously, you're a Zappa fan, 'zan!) Sometimes, I do make those faces, involuntarily, while I'm playing, particularly if I really just "get" a bluesy or funky groove and I'm playing some fills and I can just feel it all through me, and I don't know if I'm gonna shiver or split in half. When I say, "I just get so... happy sometimes when i'm playing!", I'm talkin' about just feeling overwhelmed by the sheer enjoyment of it all. Getting seriously and spontaneously psyched. More often than not, I'm just looking like I'm concentrating all focused-like on what I'm doing, with little real 'expression' on my face at all. Often enough, while I'm feeling 'all happy' from playing, I'm not necessarily playing anything all that happy; it very well might be very sad, or angry, or spaztically frustrated, but I get all taken over by the energy of it all. That being said... "Go ahead, boy, SMELL your harmonica! UGH-HUGH!" musicalhair
I don't know about the facial contortions. I either look deep in thought or like I lost my keys and I'm trying to remember where they might be. Or I end up looking too much at the most attractive woman in the club. check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. One of the perks of my day job is I have a key to the space. The room acoustics are great for reinforcing the sound of my acoustic guitar and voice. I head in an hour early most days and drive around the corner to the rehearsal studio and jam! As you said, K, it's great for psyching my up no matter what type of music I'm playing. Of course jammin' out some James Taylor, The Who, or John Denver all satisfy my need to belt out tunes to my hearts content! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Base
I'm going to see Toto again in a couple of months!!!!! Oh, yes, the loose connection to the discussion, I've seen them a couple of times up close. Their bass player (forget his name, the brother of their former drummer who passed away). He makes some very strange faces AND body poses, but really looks like he's enjoying it?!?! Ok, you can get back to the topic now.... Fa Fa FA Fa fa fa fa fa FA fa FA FA

I've always wanted to see them. They never get anywhere close to my neck of the woods. I've always enjoyed the "hot face". You sort of act like you just ate something really hot and you doing the hot-food-juggle inside your mouth. As perfected by G.E. Smith. Everybody knows rock attained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact. - Homer Simpson

S The guy I used to be in a band with started playing professionally when he was 11. He has been through many bands and never did anything else in his life other then play. He's an older gentleman now, 50 years. He always seems to be enjoying himself so much when he on stage. I asked him once if he loves playing and he said no. He went on to tell me that he hates playing, that every note is labour. He used to play because he loved it, but he did it for so long now that, it's just a job. Now his case is extreem. We are talking about 5 days (sometimes six when I played in the band) a week for almost 40 years. I suppose that would be enough to suck the life out of anything you might enjoy.
