coyote
It was a bargain - 12 bucks at BestBuy! Of course it's a wankfest, but there's enough good stuff to justify it. Satch is very skilled at what he does. Unfortunately, too much of it is a variation on Satch's Boogie. A couple of introspective pieces too.... dunno about anyone else, but to me he seems a 'soul-less' player. I've heard a couple CD cuts from him that were amazing, but he chose not to do any of those. Steve Vai is a killer!!! His time with Zappa still resonates in his playing; this is a GOOD thing. He's incredibly creative, and you can feel the fire coming from deep within. The part where he and Sheehan and the other two guitarists are all playing each other's instruments is a gas! Then of course there's Yngwie. I saw him live with Alcatrazz and then on his first solo tour of the States. Back then, he was amazing. He's still great, though his style gets to be "too much of the same" after a short time. So since his playing really hasn't changed much, it's time to talk about his stage presence.... He's not aging well at all. I wonder if the guy realizes he's morphed into Ann (Heart) Wilson's big sister?! He used to be very exciting to watch as a performer; he prowled the stage and moved with the music. Now, the moves are hackneyed - the same kick and 'wrap-around' over and over again. His fingers used to fly, now they're pudgy. Sorry, "fat-boy" rock doesn't work without a beard or something.... he oughta go take some lessons from Leslie West and Randy Bachman. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Abnorm
Yeah, a coworker of mine copied that DVD for me. I went to the 1st G3 tour, which had Satriani, Vai, and Eric Johnson. My favorite at that concert was Steve Vai, and my favorite on this DVD is, you guessed it: Steve Vai! I enjoyed Yngvie's acoustic guitar song ... amazing. JimK
I had a chance to see the last G3 tour in Boston. I've got to agree with the Yngwie/Ann Wilson comparison. I found it funny that Yngwie would play for a few seconds and then stop and wait as if he wanted to say to the crowd, "what did you think of that!". The only thing was, no one seemed very interested. It was like we were all looking for something to do until Vai and Satch came out. Now Vai and Satch were another story. That was the first time I had seen Via. That guy can do some amazing things with a guitar. In an effort to improve the responsiveness of e-mail for everyone, the e-mail servers will be out of service.
