This girl needs help, but at least she was found.

I know I had her photo up on the site because I like to show the kids from Masachusetts first before I choose other states. Sad story but at least she is safe for the time being. Here she is

Here's the story from the Lowellsun.com:

CHELMSFORD The search for Brianna Bushey led police to Lowell, Lynn and East Boston before she apparently disappeared into the brick canyons of New York City last year.

She left her home a year ago today and stayed one step ahead of investigators who followed her until she reached the Big Apple.

Bushey, who was only 14 years old when she disappeared, apparently broke all communication with her old life, leaving family and friends to wonder what became of her.

A police officer from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey found her unharmed in Times Square on Monday.

She holds the near-record for town runaways, said Inspector Kenneth Duane, the department's juvenile officer, who led the investigation into her disappearance. The only other missing child unaccounted for is Judy Chartier, who disappeared in 1982. Chartier, who would now be 39 years old, was last seen after leaving a party with a male companion. After she dropped off her friend she was never seen again.

"Usually we've had a missing kid back in a week or two this thing was just shy of a year," Duane said.

"I'll be honest with you, I'm flabbergasted because I'm from New York and I told people if she got down there we'd never find her."

When the Port Authority officer spotted the girl, now 15, he thought she looked suspicious walking in a "revealing" outfit, according to Duane.

He questioned her and she said her name was Latoya, 22 years old, and living with an uncle in Union City, N.J., Duane said.

The officer called the "uncle" who sounded surprised to have a niece named Latoya, so he hung up and questioned Bushey some more before calling back the unidentified "uncle." During the second telephone call the man surrendered Bushey's identity, according to Duane.

"She lied pretty hot and heavy, that's one reason why they charged her with false identification," he said.

Bushey was scheduled to be arraigned on the identity charge before plans are made for her return to Massachusetts.

Bushey who grew up in a middle-class home, has run away three times before, but always returned within three days, police said.

"This was the fourth one and it was a humdinger, it was a beaut," Duane said.

After past jaunts they found her in Lowell, Wilmington and Methuen.

Bushey's attraction to older men in inner cities made her hard to find, according to Duane.

"I found several guys who admitted she approached them and asked to be taken in or whatnot," he said.

Men who befriended her were afraid they could get into trouble so they were reluctant to talk to investigators.

Bushey had been listed as an "endangered runaway" on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Web site.

Keeping Bushey home once she is returned to her mother, Denise Bushey, may be hard.

"I do sincerely believe if she goes back home or to a foster situation she's going right back out the door," Duane said. "She's got a network, she can make a phone call or two and can be anywhere."

An unidentified man who answered the door at Denise Bushey's home last night said she was not ready to comment. Brianna's father Jim Bushey, who is believed to live in New Hampshire, could not be reached for comment.

Port Authority officials did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

You can still view her poster on www.missingkids.org

Wow! This is crazy!

I LOVE SUCCESS STORIES!

Although any kidnapping is horrible, I do tend to hold out some hope for the "bitter divorce" kidnappings...whereas the other variety, the "stranger" type, usually ends in tragedy.

Here's the complete story...

http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_showa.html?article=35995

DERRY An 11-year-old girl missing since Feb. 13 was found safe yesterday and is in the custody of the states Division of Children Youth and Families, while her mother has been arrested.

Police discovered Kirsten White, formerly of 193 Rockingham Road, with her mother, Dawn White, at an apartment in Berlin about 8 p.m. last night. The mother has eluded police for two months after an investigation began into the whereabouts of Kirsten, who has not been attending school for several months.

She is OK. She appears to be healthy, Capt. Vernon Thomas said of Kirsten. She was wearing clean clothes, and she did not appear to be malnourished.

In early February, police talked to Dawn White, 29, about her daughters disappearance from the Derry Cooperative School District. After initial questioning, the mother fled to New York.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was then informed of Kirstens disappearance; the National Crime Information Center issued a notice asking authorities to stop Dawn White for questioning.

We had a hunch that they may try to reconnect with relatives in Berlin, Thomas said last night. Four detectives from the Derry Police Department traveled to Berlin on Friday to canvass the area for the Whites.

The detectives spent the night in Berlin and circulated photographs of the girl throughout the community, speaking with citizens and local business owners, according to Thomas. He said police returned on Saturday without any additional leads.

However, about 8 p.m. last night, an anonymous caller contacted authorities to tell them that Kirsten and her mother were living at 575 Champlain St. in Berlin, the home of Dawn Whites mother, Thomas said.

Berlin police went to the address and found the mother and daughter inside.

Dawn White was arrested without incident, and has been charged with a violation of RSA 193:1, duty of a parent, compulsory attendance by a pupil. Thomas said the violation, which alleges that Dawn White did not have her child attending school, carries a monetary fine of up to $500 if convicted. There is no jail time associated with the violation. Dawn White was released last night from custody. A court date in Derry District Court has not yet been scheduled.

We have never understood why she fled and tried to hide the child from us, Thomas said. The most important thing is that we wanted to make sure (Kirsten) was well, and she looks well.

Kirsten White, who turned 11 last month, has been placed in a safe environment, according to Thomas, who said officials from the DCYF now have her in their care. A hearing in family court will soon be scheduled to determine her fate, he said.

This remains an open investigation, Thomas said, adding that Dawn White could face charges of neglect or endangerment. In addition, relatives who have been uncooperative with police may again be questioned, he said.

It is not clear how long the Whites have been living in Berlin. Thomas thanked the Berlin Police Department for assisting in the investigation.

That was where I was misinformed, she had been out of school for about a year, not missing or at least reported missing...

Umm... That doesn't sound like the girl was in any danger or being neglected. The report you quoted sounds like the mother was intending to possibly home school Kirsten. The report didn't say that, but that's what I would assume. So, what's the deal here? Did the state just take the kid away from her mom because she didn't take Kirsten to school? That's what it sounds like to me.

Didja hear a while back about the woman who got her daughter back a number of years after it had been assumed that the child- then an infant- had perished in a fire?

It turned out that the fire had been set by another woman, who took the baby for her own and raised her in another town. She actually had the nerve (six or seven?) years later to send her to a birthday party for some other kid related to the real mother. The Real mother just instinctively knew that she was her daughter, even though they had long ago accepted her "death". She kept her head and quietly contacted the police that had handled the original fire investigation, and insisted that they follow up on it. To shorten this long story, DNA testing conluded that the girl was in fact her daughter, and after re-opening the case the other woman was convicted of arson and kidnapping, and the girl was put with her actual family. Photos showed a smiling, not so bad for the wear little girl. (Even though it's a "happy ending", it's gotta be rough and stressful and confusing to the poor kid!) I was pretty happy to see that in the news!

As far as the woman being charged for child being kept out of school, hey, there's a right way an a wrong way to do things. If she wants to pursue home schooling, there are channels to go through, not just disappearing from the schoolhouse.

Caevan - I did see that story about the arson/fake death/kidnapping. What a story! SOme people will do anything I guess. I'm waiting for the "Law & Order" episode "Ripped from the headlines!"

We can all use some good news whenever it comes along. I like your idea of posting pics of missing persons, it's no doubt a one in a million shot but if that was my son in the pic I'd sure appreciate everybody taking two seconds to look at it. Keep it up! Caeven - I read that story recently too, absolutley unbelievable what some people will do.

The mother has eluded police for two months after an investigation began into the whereabouts of Kirsten, who has not been attending school for several months.

Bluestrat this was in no way a home schooling issue, the mother and relatives would not tell police where the kid was, she never filed the proper paperwork to home school that is what set the school off, if you saw the mother in court and her attitude it would make more sense to you--

Here's the latest one out of CNN.com

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) -- A girl reported missing in California nine years ago has been found in central Ohio, living under an assumed name with her mother, authorities said.

Licking County prosecutors said a woman recognized the girl's picture from the Web site of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and called sheriff's deputies.

She was found Friday in nearby Johnstown, about 20 miles northeast of Columbus, authorities said.

The girl, Vanesa Brancheau, and her mother, Sheri Lyn Taylor, were reported missing in 1995 from the Los Angeles community of Woodland Hills, the Licking County sheriff's office said in a news release.

The girl, 5 years old when she was reported missing, is now 13 and attending Southwest Licking Schools under the name Ariel Rose Wiggins, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's Capt. Rod Mitchell said Taylor indicated that she and her husband had been fighting for custody of the girl at the time of the disappearance.

"The mom claims that she couldn't, at the time of the custody battle, couldn't afford attorney fees and simply was running from him," Mitchell told Columbus television station WCMH.

No one was available to answer questions at the sheriff's office on Wednesday night. A Los Angeles police spokesman said he had no immediate information on the case.

Taylor could not be reached for comment. There was no listing for her in Johnstown.

The girl was placed in foster care Tuesday after a hearing in Licking County Juvenile Court.

No charges have been filed against the mother, but authorities are investigating.

That's awesome Diss! :thu: I know how happy you must be since that seems to be near and dear to your heart. You seem like a man on a mission in creating awareness.

May I ask what got you started? Was it a personal experience or something that hit near home with you?

Peace :)

When I was young I watched the tv movie called "Adam".

It broke my heart when the father Walsh-found out how his son had died. I have never seen the movie since that time. It left a mark on me to this day.

It kills me to think of parents just turning away for a moment and then their children are gone forever. Sad--I put up a new picture of missing kids about twice a week or so, hopefully maybe someday someone will be found with my help.
