Score! A used Fender American Standard Strat for me!

Well I had some musical stuff lying around the house that I didn't use, so I decided to sell them on ebay. I made enough that I was able to put a couple of hundred dollars with it and buy this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47069&item=3723016800&rd=1

It is a 1999 Fender American Standard Stratocaster with maple neck and hardshell Fender case. I am gonna add it to my collection!! Some time ago I sold a Fender 57 reissue strat I had as well as a Gibson Les Paul Studio to get a PRS Mcarty with P-90s.

I still have that PRS guitar, but I am wanting to get that "strat" sound back. I really didn't dig the 57 reissue smaller fretwire and like the medium jumbo frets better like on my mcarty. This strat also has modern electronics that are supposed to sound decent without having to replace the pickups, as the 57 reissue had more vintage sounding pickups.

All in all, I think I am gonna like this strat! I have heard that this model is a good all around strat with decent hardware and pickups. They don't make them anymore and it is hard to find them in stores, unless they get one in used. I have not seen one where I live. But I have seen and heard the Fender American Stratocaster which is the model that replaced the American standard. They have a few differences between the two.

I should get the guitar in a week or two. I will post a tone report as soon as I am able.

Wow! Still got the protective clear plastic on the pickguard, eh?

That is a pretty sharp looking three-color sunburst, too!

Gonna call her "Virginia"? ;)

Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do?

Eric Johnson has a really sweet (all original, as far as I know) '54 Strat with a maple neck and fretboard and a sunburst finish (albeit the early two-color version) that he has nicknamed "Virginia". I believe that it is his all-around favorite, and he's got a few nice ones!

And, now you do, too!

Thanks dude! I am hoping that it will replace my need of not having a strat sound right now. Don't get me wrong, I love my PRS soapbar, but I gotta have a strat to add to it!

I crave a three soapbar set-up, with switching that would allow all three on in parallel and the outside two (br. and n.), as well as the usual "Strat"-favorites of "2" and "4". That would be sooo great!!

If you ever, ever get the itch to try different extra pickup-combinations outside the usual five allowed by standard Strat switching, I highly recommend any options that allow for all three single-coils on in parallel. It sounds absolutely, incredibly Heavenly!! Lush shimmering super cluck! Sparkle and roundness. Did I mention that I like the sound? Hah!

Mabye you ought to try a PRS custom soapbar 22?? They have three pickups and I think they have the switching that way, but I am not sure!

I am very seriously considering adding a "middle" pickup to my Les Paul Studio/"Gem", wich has a pair of P-90s. I keep that one in Open-d tuning, so another (what a guitar $lut I could become!) for standard-tuned soapbar playing would be great, too...

:idea:(Fade/disolve to "Dream Guitar"-sequence) :rolleyes::cool:

I'd really like something along the lines of a '59/'60 Les Paul Special but with a one-piece, carved-top mahogany body, and three soapbars. One of the nicest electrics that I ever played was a '60 LP Special, I still wince when I think of how I could have bought it... !!

Sounds COOL! I know how you feel about guitar deals that you let slip by. I get depressed when I think of some that got by me.....but this fender sure helps! HE! HE!
