strat0124
Having played one at a music store, I'm convinced that this is the best bang for buck in a squareneck resonator. Fixin to buy it. It sounds great, looks great, stays in tune well, and priced right. I've got a cravin........ strat0124
Hey guys, been working way too much, and no time to do much else. Have been living, eating, and sleeping the bluegrass/mountain music scene up here. Been to so many shows, picked a bit, and working my way into the scene. As far as a roundneck, depends on what you want. If you're into the bisquit cone sound, I'd say go try out a few metal bodied units made by Johnson, Regal, Dean, and others. Yeah they ain't a National, but I betcha noone could hear the difference. The cool factor is the only thing you'll miss. I have a custom made roundneck with a spider bridge, that my Dad made. Its got a D body, solid woods, and a big honkin neck that you could lift the engine out of your car with. I also have a cool metal bodied "Aloha" guitar made by Dean, that sounds and plays really good. I had a cheaper Regal that was ok, but not great, and gave it to my son who was of course enthralled with it. I was skeptical at the Regal Lightning until I had one in my hands. It absolutely smokes the Hound-dog Gibson makes, and is about 300 bills cheaper. I played another Dobro brand squareneck at Stringfellows here in Lynchburg, and it ain't noticeably any better in manufacture or tone. In fact I kinda like the Regal better for some reason that I can't place my finger on. Just keeping track of all the different tunings I do is the only mind boggling thing. Buying a Regal Lightning isn't! I've got one today, lunchtime purchase! Great finish by the way. Look forward to talking to you all soon. Congrats, it coulda happened to a nicer guy! For real, I'm glad for you, Geenard! If you were closer, and could be nailed down for a few minutes, I'd want to take a lesson or two from you. If so, how did they compare to one another, and what can be said for their consistancy? "Buying a Regal Lightning isn't (a "mind boggling thing")! Dak Lander
Way to go Gene. Get some sound samples up soon, will ya? I'm looking at the Liberty Guitars resos, round necks, but just might have to look at the Regals. Either one is going to kick my Eppy Biscuit into the weeds.
