Jazz Guitar
Just kidding, it could happen someday. Myles? How about an inexpensive, low power Dumble clone, 2xEL84s, Class A, switchable negative feedback with tube buffered parallel loop? Have you recorded an MP3 today? dave251
I've been working on the same amp for more than two years...or at least something very close to what you suggest... This is the first prototype...based on the WE 300B triode....about 10 watts... http://www.electrocoustic.com/newimage/guitaramp1.jpg And this is the second, uses any large base pentode....actually set up for a 6550. I'm guessing about 15 watts from this one, and we might be able to boost that to about 20 watts. http://www.electrocoustic.com/newimage/rankin6550.JPG I'm afraid we're going to have to go to a PP circuit...probably EL34's....simple tone stack, just one knob(the tone should be in the guitar, not the amp!!)...and a parallel, tube buffered EFX loop...should do about 30 to 40 watts in a "hifi" format... We're thinking along the same lines, my friend... Here's what I've been using...a Fender Blues Jr., in a larger cab. It's got an Eminence Beta 12LT speaker(flat response and sweet highs), and I run a 12AT7 for the phase splitter. Since it's only 15 or 20 watts, I put it up on a speaker stand for better dispersion and higher apparent volume. http://www.electrocoustic.com/newimage/newjrcab.jpg All I need to do is sell about 10 guitars at once to fund another prototype. Keep up the good work. I'm sure all that keeps you very very busy. My one compliant with so many of these low wattage kits is, somehow someone doesn't think you need reverb. Nice to see you have an effects loop. Have you recorded an MP3 today?
myles_rose
There are some great amp folks out there that may have things right now in this area. Myles S. I think there are a lot of great builders and designers out there, and I am not willing to spend time in trying to run a company, deal with suppliers, inventory, etc. I just prefer to work with the folks that I have a great respect for. I am already short on time, and to try to be in the amp making bizz would be impossible. Myles S.
