If law is what you are really interested in, my advice would be to go for it. I have regretted not pursuing this when I was first out of school. Since I have been in business the last ten years I really wish I had gotten my JD. Too many kids, not enough time to pursue it now.
Mudcat-

I think I could go the international route, maybe patent & copyright-sure to be a growth field. To be honest, I like what I`ve been doing, it allows me the flexibility to do the creative things on the side, but I`m sick of not making any money. Actually, `sick` should be underlined and written in big, shaky letters...

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

Hey Skipclone... my brother also teaches english in Tokyo, albeit at the south end of town. He's retired Navy, and still works at the Atsugi base.

As for me, I'm a delivery driver in the great white north. Musically, I'm in a few bands, and I direct our church choir.

DanG,

skipclone 1, where abouts in Japan are you? Any where near Nagoya?
I was in Nagoya twice. Once on Sunday, and then the following Saturday.

I was on a business trip to "run off" some equipment with Fuji Machines. When I woke up Monday morning a cab had been arranged for me to got to Fuji (someplace about two hours away in a tiny little town with no hotel), play with some CNC lathes, then 30 minutes to a hotel. Ditto for Tuesday, Wednesday .. well you get the idea.

Actually I enjoyed it immensely since I (and my whole family) enjoy Japanese food (yes, Sushi too) and culture. Back at the plant we worked shoulder to shoulder with Japanese engineers.

Since I was the customer (buying the machines), I was treated REAL well. All the (thick sliced) Maguro (raw tuna) I could eat Sunday night, traditional Japanese lunches at the Fuji plant and anything I wanted at night, EVEN McDonalds!

When the run off was done and I'd gone back to Nagoya (home base for the Fuji sales guys), the chief honcho arranged for his assistant to escort me around Nagoya Saturday for tourist stuff, shopping, GREAT lunch, Nagoya Castle, etc.

Sure beat the treatment the rest of the guys (home base US engineers) got when they went over to run off the equipment we were buying (no choice) from our parent company, TOYODA Machine Works. They got to work 10-12 hours per day and eat "slop" (comparatively).

I drew good duty! :D

Oh yeah, BTW, loved Nagoya.

Caught a tough break on the way home too, got bumped to First Class. Had Caviar, Sushi and Champagne for appetizers, and Filet Mignon for the entree'.

The first, and ONLY, business trip I ever got this lucky!

Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

Wow, that`s cool. A friend of mine who does Okinawan karate is also an ex-marine, we`ve worked out at Yokosuka several times. Don`t think I`ve been to Atsugi yet.

Actually I`m in job search mode now, trying to stay local but may end up closer to town.

Dervaj, I love that guitar, when is it going on the market!!!

Base, when I get a few more compliments like yours!

Actually, I am purchasing more woodworking equipment next week. I have 2 orders for them and the pics have only been online for about a week!. 1 In Hawaii (neck through) and 1 in Fl. (bolt on - he doesn't want to spend aloft of money). I am building neck through right now and timing myself so I know how much to charge.

I am also experimenting with finishes. Hyperspec was the first PC company to offer 1000 different color PCs (1995). I even have a complete chrome one PC. I used to build PCs with wood fronts, laminated wood on the monitors. I still have all my spraying equipment and thousands of dollars worth of materials. I am in pretty good shape in regards to launching these guitars. I may do a limited run to see how it all goes.

I will keep your info and contact you when I get a good idea on labor/costs.

I used to work for Gadget Labs back when they were in business. It was a great job and the people there were exceptional! That's cool to hear that you built systems with their hardware :thu: .
Dylan PDX,

I really liked the Gadget stuff. You guys really had a jump on things AND were great to do business with (I miss you guys maaaaan :D ) I learned alot from you guys. I also learned that 'throughput' is key when building Music Recording PCs. Even as or more important than RAM and Processor. I used 2-8/24s with 3-RAID U80 HDs and a Quad AGP video card. I really wish I didn't sell all of them and kept at least one in the box.
