Blue Strat
The "Who would ya jam wit" thread got me thinking. How many of you guys play instruments aside from guitar? Drums, bass, blues-harp, lute, bag-pipes, etc.? I play drums. Pretty good too, if I might add. I mess around with blues-harp and bass too, but suck at those. BlueStrat a.k.a. Hey! I played Sousaphone in school too... Our Joint "When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it." The Duke... batterypowered
Yeah, I haven't played since high school, but I still remember the fingering, too. I want to pick up a used bari for cheap somewhere, but not right now; nowhere to store it. I have trombones at home, I should whip one of those out and get the lip back. Oh, I guess I should list what I play, too. Bass, pretty well Mando, just starting Banjo, pretty badly A wee bit of piano, enough to get by for myself Baritone Trombone Trumpet Tenor Sax, if I remember the fingerings again twoblock.net batterypowered.org

demarc
Well I play guitar (duh), some pretty mean blues (not to be confused with red or green) harp (if I say so, myself), used to be a decent drummer, can play a few tunes on piano (talk about easy theory of chord structure compared to guitar), and when I am really feeling ambitious I try my (weak) hand at alto sax and violin Check out some handcrafted guitars: http://home.mindspring.com/~grus/guitars.htm

donnaholic
i can also play bass, drums, and keyboards. i say keyboard not piano cuz to me they are too different things. paino is like freddie mercury's playing in Queen and keyboards like the keys guy from any of those death metal bands. its almost like they're playing guitar riffs on a piano. Philip OKeefe
Reeds were my original instruments. I also play bass, some keyboards, a little banjo and mandolin... I dabble in a few things, but wouldn't consider myself a master of any of them. Is slide considered a seperate instrument or just a different playing technique? Either way, I also play slide. Would love to learn pedal steel.
kitaristi0
I play bass, piano, drums, other percussion instruments and I sing. Learning to play other instruments is really easy if you've played guitar for a long time. A duck-pond, a museum, and a red hunting hat.
JLsound
I play bass. I can write music on piano. I can play an A blues harp. I can sing with dissonance. coyote
In my current band I'm playing keys, guitar, percussion, and blues harp. I used to play drums for a living, and have played bass in a few bands & lead gtr in others. I also played clarinet for awhile... and do backup vox in most situations. I wouldn't say I'm great at any given instrument, but I do have a musical sense that carries through to whatever I'm playing. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. rogertroutman
I play guitar, bass, harmonica, keyboards, drums and the talkbox. You can get bored playing and mastering just one instrument so to keep things fresh and new I learn these instruments. Doing this also abled me to produced a complete song all by myself without bringing in others when I'm in the studio brainstorming. I'm having fun doing what I like to do... making funk/R&B/jazz and blues music.

ihategarybettman
I actually started out on drums; I was the drummer in the four bands of which I was a member. I took up the guitar about seven years ago and I am astounded by how mediocre I still am and much more I still have to learn, but I enjoy playing my three guitars (Fender Nashville Tele, modified Epiphone Special II, and Alvarez acoustic) immensely. I also am one of the world's worst blues harmonica players. Soon I will add piano to the list of instruments that are subjected to my inept playing. freelance
While most of my time during the last couple of years has been spent with a guitar in my hands (I'm getting to be a fair guitar player) my main axe is the drum kit. But I play several instruments - in order of quality of chops. Drums - Very good Hand Percussion - Pretty good Piano/Keys - Reasonably good Guitar - Fairly good Bass - Average Banjo - Less than average Harp - OK - for a basement jam Fiddle - An embarassment, to the instrument I've tried Trumpet & Sax - mostly I drool on myself (Hey, I am a drummer by trade!!!) Mudcat
At one time I considered myself a Ringo Starr type drummer (though not anymore ). I have also played bass in a band, though my chops on that instrument have deteriorated to the point that I am very thankful for the ability to digitally edit my music on my computer. I also plink around on a midi-keyboard and am able to program some simple keyboard stuff on my computer. I definitely wouldn't consider keys an instrument I can actually play live. J J
Funny you should ask because i majored in college to play the kazoo. I was in a kazoo chour and we played every sunday for morning mass. Needless to say, we were pretty damned good too. After a while it got pretty borring, so i eventually tought myself how to play two kazoos at the same time. (i finally made my way up to 4!) After a couple of years i was requested several times to play in large venues, weddings, funerals (you know, the usual stuff), and i actually got played a decent amount of money. Despite the large crowd i was influencing i put together a band, and i now play guitar and, still, my double style kazoo method. You really wouldn't believe the way people act when i put my soul into those peices of plastic. The outcome is amazing, and i would advise anyone who is interestedd to do it. At first it can be a real challange but it really pays off in the end just thought i'd give you guys some musical background of mine...
