Dave da Dude
Mine? Rolling Stones, "Brown Sugar" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash". I don't remember the chords, but they were probably wrong anyway. Just somethin' the lead guy in my cousin's band showed me, but way easy ... once I finally mastered the barre chord (on my Martin no less). It was somethin' like G, A & C. I heard "TNT" by AC/DC on the car radio yesterday and got to wonderin'. It's just as easy as it sounds; E, A & G. I haven't noodled 'round with it yet, but it doesn't look too hard and it ROCKS! Anybody else got REALLY easy riffs to GREAT ROCKIN' songs? Dave Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

Dave da Dude
njrocker, the lead guitar on layla is pretty easy- so is wonderful tonight. I agree, "Layla" looks easy (I picked up the tab recently), I just haven't tried it yet. BTW, where is Forked River? I used to live in the town of Middlesex (near Somerville), and I'm thinkin' Forked River is below Atlantic City on the coast. That area always reminds me of the guy who left the killer office Christmas party for home near / in Toms River. He stopped off at Atlantic City for a few spins and woke up the next day to find a $100 charge from a casino on his VISA. GREAT party bluestrat, "Smoke On The Water" My first REALLY smokin' rocker, on the Martin with cheap ass sound hole pickup no less. fatasticsound, I agree about AC/DC. They subscribe to the KISS principal in music. For the uninitiated, KISS is "Keep It Simple Stupid", an engineering design principal. BTW, KISSing is not as simple as it sounds in machine design, nor, I suspect, music. My motto has always been, "Any idiot can design a complex mechanism. It takes many iterations and re-designs to acheive a simple, yet highly functional, design." Anyway, I still think AC/DC ROCKS! Also very under-rated because their stuff is simple and straightforward, but that's not necessarily all bad. Dave Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need". coyote
'Smoke' is deceptive. It is SOOOO simple, yet you rarely hear a band get it right. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. ihategarybettman
"Smoke on the Water" - definitely!!! Dave da Dude
Dr. Taz, Most songs by The Ventures are deceptively difficult, but are actually easy to figure out. Yup . Fortunately, I have my "Play Along With The Ventures" albums to guide me I still play "Walk Don't Run" and "Night Train" all the time. I also use both (also with the rhythm of "Walk Don't Run") to audition guitars. They cover a lot of the fretboard, includes bends and slides and tell a lot about a guitar (to me anyway). ihategarybettman, "Cat Scratch Fever" - Ted Nugent "Touch Too Much" - AC/DC I don't know this one. I'll have to find it and give a listen. Later, Dave Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".
doc taz
"Bad to the bone" and other assorted Thorogood songs. I know it's an open tuning, right? Or is it just like a drop D deal? sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
ihategarybettman
Dave th Dude, "Touch Too Much" is on "Highway to Hell" (probably AC/DC's second best album and my personal favorite).
njrocker
where is Forked River? its like 15 min south of toms river, on the coast(sort of).it touches a 6 mile wide bay and at the end of the bay is long beach island-the outer banks of NJ.if you have a boat, go south and you can get to atlantic city from here by water. I still think AC/DC ROCKS! hell yeah

I'm originally from Connecticut (On the coast, Long Island Sound is almost like real ocean front). Where I live is FOUR hours from the ocean, good news is that the four hours gets you to Myrtle Beach, pretty cool place Better than Tennessee though, where we were EIGHT hours from the ocean Liked everything else 'bout Tennessee though, including their football teams, #1 UT, and #2 Titans Dave the Landlocked Dude Gotta' geetar... got the amp. Dave da Dude
From the '50's great hits / albums / artists thread, "La Bamba", Ritchie Valens C (open), barre F, G How much easier can it get? Like I said on the other thread though, the bad part is that it's hard to stop once you get started. It just ".. keeps comin' 'round on the geetar .." again, and again, and ..... AlChuck
You know, they are almost all just as easy if you leave out really knotty chromatic stuff like bebop or Allan Holdsworth... ... and just as hard. To play even simple combinations of notes exp[ressively with a good touch, so that it sounds like singing rather than someone hitting notes on an instument, is the real trick and is what requires time and effort and ears and is what separates the wheat from the chaff.
