Beatnik
Hey, would like to know which are your favorite World Musicians or bands (not from the U.S.A. or U.K.)? I was thinking about how many great musicians are in Latin-America,Australia,Europe,Asia or Africa; and maybe we never heard of them. Some famous are Dyango Reinhardt,Andres Segovia,Paco de Lucia,Ravi Shankar,Yngwie Malmsteen,Carlos Santana. There are many others not so famous but really good. I am sure you have your favorites. Mark Zeger
Richard Bona is an immense talent. Plays beautifully fluid bass, has a gorgeous voice, is a very strong guitarist, held down the percussion chair in the Pat Metheny Group, and composes well in nearly every musical genre imaginable. I want to catch him in Mike Stern's trio (w/Dave Weckl) in late January at Iridium in NYC. Ivan Lins is my favorite singer/songwriter. For me, he's like "the Brazilian James Taylor" (though he plays piano, not guitar). He's a joyous live performer, too.

Jim Soloway
I listen to a lot of Brazilian music, everything from early Bosa Nova to contemporary jazz. For guitar players, I highly recommend anything by Romero Lubambo. I also picked up an incredible CD for Christmas by Maria de Barros called NHA Mundo, music of Cabo Verde. It's most certainly going to be getting a lot of play around our house for the next few months. www.solowayguitars.com

The Lone Chicken
A gguiat duo that comes to my mind here is Strunz and Farah, from which I haven't heard anything on in recent years. "Strunz" is Jorge Strunz, a great guitar player from Costa Roca who headed up the Latin fusion band Caldera back in the 70's. "Farah" is Ardishir Farah, an equally phenomenal guitar player from Iran. Together they have put out acoustic-based music that is part Latin, part Arabian, and very enjoyable to listen to! As I was trying to recall Farah's first name while writing this, I discovered that these guys have a website! Obviously these guys are still around (LOL). The address is http://www.strunzandfarah.com . Robert J. AlChuck
There's a Tunisian oud player named Anour Brahem who's done some beautiful work. From Brazil, my favorites are Caetano Veloso, Virginia Rodriguez , and Milton Nascimento. I love that soukous stuff from Africa but I don't really know much about it. Those joyful interlocking guitar parts are fantastic. Always loved Ravi Shankar, also L. Shankar the great violinist, the percussionist Zhakir Hussain, and Sheila Chandra , who combines Indian and Celtic traditions.

Teahead
Ahem, I think he said "Musicians" Caevan! I don't know about James, but I don't consider myself worthy of standing up for that call. I don't even like "Guitarist." Guitar Player is about all I can stomach. I know what you meant though... Ya' big softie! Pedal Clips
