batterypowered
Man, what about the Tragically Hip?? I never heard them until I started coming to Canada, and it's really too bad they're unheard of in the States. twoblock.net batterypowered.org

Beermouse
Other bands that have made a big splash (maybe slightly more recently ): 1) The Barenaked Ladies. 2) Our Lady Peace. 3) Swollen Members. And not to forget jazz GREAT Maynard Ferguson. There's tonnes of great (Canadian) talent out there, you just have to know where to look. Speaking of which, I feel I should plug http://www.overhear.com/ . It's a website for indie music in Ontario. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, so I'm not getting a cut for this. I just think it's a really great resource for musicians in Ontario.
MarshallGibson_6
You forgot Nickleback and Harlequin (who I thought wrote reat stuff) Don't sell anything. Just keep it all. Let it pile up and see it grow tall. Up thru the roof and into the sky. More is always better so pile it sky high.
Leon_
Harlequin had some good songs....Streetheart,also!! Gabriel E.
This is why I left Canada: -Barenaked Ladies -Moxy Fruvious (SP?) -Bryan Adams -Celine Dion -Frozen Ghost -Loverboy (sorry YYZ_123 but one Foreigner was already one too many). -Glass Tiger -Honeymoon Suite (you've had to be kidding about them right? Hair metal was bad. Canadian hair metal was really bad). -Tu -Sheriff -Lee Aaron -Corey Hart -Smash LA -Crash Test Dummies -Cowboy Junkies (mistook a mood for songs). -Sloan With a few exceptions (the Guess Who, BTO, Blue Rodeo, Rush, Neil Young, etc.) Canada's music scene has always been solidly mediocre. Caevan O’Shite
I can't believe that it wasn't 'till near the end of this thread that I found even a mention of Neil Young! And I've got to add, "Takin' Care of Business" should be grounds for arrests to be made at Customs... I LOATH that sorry-@$$3d excuse for a song!! The bane of open-mic-night-jams. Mudcat
Gotta mention the Kingbees ("My Mistake")and The Pursuit of Happiness ("I'm an Adult Now'). They are both one hit wonders but they were both great bands (who just happened to be from Canada). Isn't Zal Yanovsky (Lovin Spoonful)from Ontario? Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Blue Strat
I'll agree with you on Our Lady Peace and a few others like Rush, Neil Young, and Simple Minds, but the majority of that list is not all that spectacular. timrocker
Add my name to the list of Randy Bachman fans. I've got like all of his stuff including the Guess Who and two solo albums. Add my name to the list of people who don't need to ever hear "Takin' Care Of Business" again. One spin of that song was plenty.
Mike Gug
Yes, there is Rock and Roll in Canada, but, given the exchange rate, it's usually worth about 85% of the Rock and Roll from the United States. differentman
Technically, this is spam, since this "poll" is just a cover for asking us to go to his site and listen to and (I'm sure he's hoping) buy his album. His original post says so: "view my album (CD) below." whatever. Heap more animosity upon me...

Stratasaurus
Mike and others you have to rate it per/capita. I think we rock plenty hard comparatively. I'll add another few to the list for fun. Trooper - (Yea I know, but I liked them anyway) Roughtrade Remy Shand Sam Roberts Great Big Sea I know were to blame for Shania Twain, and Celine Dion, but we will try and compensate. Mike Gug
Mmmmm.... Shania... She's been naughty and she needs to be dealt with... Trooper - (Yea I know, but I liked them anyway) Roughtrade Remy Shand Sam Roberts Great Big Sea I don't know any of these. How about some comparisons(?). Caevan, yes, the beer!!!!
