I've got a Les Paul set-up and fully dedicated to open-D, wound-3rd(F#) tuning, with P-90 "soapbars" and a 'bender on the 2nd(A)-string. I love just getting lost in finding chord-fingerings on it! I run .012, .015, .024w, .028, .038, .052 pure nickel wrap strings, tuned D-A-D-F#-A-D, low to high. (I know, I know, you tune D-I-D-L-E-Y, right?)
