My favorite Christmas song is in fact, "The Christmas Song"! :)

You know how it goes... "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."

"......Hang up your pretty stockings.......

turn out the light...............

I'll be comin down your chimney tonight......

Its Christmas time, pretty baby..........

Santa Claus is back in town.........

...........Got no sleigh or reindeers..........

No sack on my back.................

I'll be comin in a big black Cadillac.......

Its Christmas time pretty darlin......and the snow is falling on the ground........

You be a real good little baby.......

Santa Claus is back in town........."

Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in

I like:

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

"The Christmas Song"

Donny Hathaway "This Christmas"

Joni Mitchell "River" (not really a Christmas song, but it always sounds better this time of year than any other)

"What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" (again, not Christmas, just a great Frank Loesser seasonal standard)

Oh yeah!

Actually I forgot his version of Amazing Grace(also Merry Axemas); just JB and a choir.

The Night Santa Went Crazy - Weird Al

Also Fairytale of New York City (I think that's what it's called) is pretty cool. I only know the no use for a name version of it but I like it. I don't know if it's exactly a christmas song but I like it.

I can`t remember the title or all the words, but I like that one that goes

said the someone someone to the someone else do you hear what I hear?

the rest of the verses are on that same theme

Also, the Carpenters` `An old Fashioned Christmas`-sue me but Karen`s singing on that one totally kicks.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

Said the night wind to the little lamb

Do you hear what I hear?

Yeah, that's a good one, in the traditional vein.

Traditional Carols tend to be my favorite, stuff that lends itself to choral interpretation. In that vein, one of my favorite is "The Coventry Carol" which is really quite tragic in subject matter. It would make a great classical guitar interpretation...and I'm sure it's been done.

I like the jolly type of old English "Wassail" type Carol, "The Holly and the Ivy", etc.

As far as most more modern stuff goes...how many versions of "Winter Wonderland" do we need? :D But, I like a lot of it nonetheless.

And, as far as keyboard stuff goes, I still love the Vince Guaraldi "Charlie Brown" stuff...

"Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

To me if you ain't got Elvis and Bing at Christmas you ain't sheeeeeit! :)

However, I'm really diggin the hammered dulcimer Christmas CD my kids gave me.

For some reason if I hear a freaking horn playing, I don't like it. Call it horn prejudice if you will! :) Remember the line....."we don't give a damn, bout no trumpet playing band....it ain't what we call rock n roll".

Actually, it's Billy Squier. And if you like that tune, you should check out Billy Squier's "Don't Say No" album. It's one of my "desert island" disks. I don't think there's a single weak song on that album.
