God, I just wanted to say that Joe Walsh is in my opinion a GOD! He is a great songwriter. I know alot of guys would judge him on 'Rocky Mountain Way' or whatever, but if you listen to the James Gang's gretest hits or any of his post Eagles stuff like 'There goes the nieghborhood', his songwriting is awesome. I mean he has style. I think he is what made the Eagles 'Hotel California' great just cuz he was there! I mean I also think he is an awesome lead player. He has a killer rythmn tone on 'Midnight Man' I think. He has awesome taste. I haven't listened to anything current, most of my listening is of the older Joe Walsh stuff but the guy just seems to be SUPER cool.

A personal fav of mine of Joe Walsh is called 'Rivers'. I love the whole arrangement. I think Don Felder plays the solo in it. I also love the resolve of the solo in 'The Bomber'. 'Take a look around' is a tune also. He has so many. I mean I don't necessarily like all his hits, but he has so many songs that were awesome that weren't hits too. 'Things' is a tune.

Joe is truly talented. Great singer with an unusual voice. The guy can sing harmony too. But Seriously Folks is a great album.

Some of my favorite Walsh songs are The Confessor, Tomorrow, At The Station, Indian Summer, Help Me Through the Night, Meadows, Turn to Stone, Over and Over, Pretty Maids All In A Row.

IMHO, he is the most talented Eagle.

I agree 100% with the statement that he was the most talented Eagle. Joe has so much soul in his music. I love most of his stuff. I think his voice whether it is great or not is COMPLETELY defined sounding. I don't know for sure but I am assuming he wrote the riff for 'Life in the fastlane'. It would be cool to meet Joe and hang out with him and smoke one and drink a beer. I bet he has some great stories. My buddy saw him give a clinic at GIT about 10 years ago and he said he was amazed at how good he was. He said that he is FAR better than he shows in his songs or live performance and very versatile. In fact he told me Joe was the most impressive player he saw give a clinic there. I believe it just because he is Joe Walsh. Anything goes.

JW tells this great story (I heard it for the first time on the radio) about recording the solo for "Hotel California". Apparently, he nailed his part on the very first take, but Henley, who is a perfectionist, said that he should just play it 10 more times to make sure he couldn't do it better. Henley heads out to the lounge to play some pool, and Joe cranks up the monitors and plays back his track 10 times in a row. Henly comes back in and says "I liked the third take for feel, but the fifth one had better timing."

"For instance" is not proof.

That's kind funny, When I was about 17(musta been around 74???) I had had a little mini-studio set up in the basement with a cheap drum kit( w/ Ludwig toms :) ), guitar w/ amp and an old RCA reel to reel that I put a switch in that disconnected the erase head( for psuedo sound on sound). I did my fair share of "basement tapes". One of the first few I cut were Funk 49 and Walk Away... I guess you could say I am a Joe Walsh fan....

I've loved Joe Walsh's playing since I was a kid, in the mid-1970's. (Yikes! )

I don't think he gets near enough credit for his songwriting. The entire Confessor album is filled with songs nobody but die-hard JW fans know, but each one is incredible.

The powerful music and poignant lyrics of The Confessor. (And lyrically, the same could be said of Problems.) The humor of [/i]Bubbles, Fifteen Years[/i], and I Broke My Leg. I can listen to Slow Dancing for hours. The music is positively hypnotic.

In 1987 I heard a song on the radio and remarked, "I don't know who's singing this song, but the guitar player must've learned to play slide guitar from Joe Walsh!" The singer was Richard Marx and the song was Don't Mean Nothing, with Joe Walsh playing slide guitar. :D

Yeah man, Joe is the sheeeeeeit.

I don't hear many distinct voices in guitar today, very few. They seem to be more worried about playing more notes than making the one note sound great. And if all else fails, MORE GAIN! Or more tricks, or whatever. Guys like Joe Walsh, Ry Cooder, Johnny Winter, Duane Allman, and others are what made me buy my first slide years ago.

Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in

Back around '70 or so, I saw Joe and the Gang in the movie Zachariah
I remember a movie from the 70's... the soundtrack included "In The City"... I can't seem to place the name of the movie though... I remember the song, just about note for note, but am lost for a title of the movie...

You don't need to sell ME, Flagship! Been a Walsh fan since the days the James Gang had five members! That was in '68-'69, before they cut an album. They used to be regulars at Detroit's old Grande Ballroom. Two of the guys died in a car crash during their commute from Cleveland in early '69.

Walsh always seemed to do some amazing stuff, and also made it look soooo easy. Some of you Jeff Beck freaks may flame me, but The James Gang did a cover of "Jeff's Boogie", and Walsh kicked the SHIT out of Beck's version!
