It's a bolt on neck - the set necks are more desireable. If it's new I'd say Bluestrat's prices are probably in the ballpark - used, I'd look at it being significantly less. Gtr Ctr sells those things from time to time for pretty dang cheap prices. I got a limited edition, flame top / custom color (transparent red burst) Epi Les Paul with a set neck and SKB case for around $550 OTD a few years back, and prices don't seem to have changed all that much since then.

But it IS a darn pretty little axe!

bluestrat,

Nice guitar. I'll bet it goes for somewhere between $275 to $325.
Yeah, I agree with bluestrat estimate. Anyone want to start a pool for the closest to the actual selling price? :D

If you watch the auctions, a lot of them are very quiet until the last 24, or even 12 hours. Notice that there's already 29 bids and there's over three days left. I'm sure this will be a very active auction on the last day.

BTW, notice the body material. It's Alder. I'm sure it's a nice axe, but it'll never sound like a Les Paul. Epi makes a slightly more expensive model that has a Mahogany Body and Neck. That may be closer, especially if you change out the pups.

Oh yeah, BTW2, No. I don't have the $142.50 or I'd have my Strat.

I missed the bolt on part. I was thinking about a set neck model.

Me too. I had seen that the Alder body was a bolt-on, but I forgot.

Phillip, How do you like you Epi LP? Did you find it necessary to change the pups?

Dave, I've had it for several years now (probably since '97) and it's been a great little guitar. Nice and hefty - a chiropractor's dream, just like a good LP should be. ;) A LP is traditionally Mahogany with a maple cap - not alder. Alder's more likely to be found in a Strat or (occasionally) a Tele. I have no idea how a bolt on neck, alder body LP shaped guitar would sound, but I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded noticably different than what most people think of a Les Paul tone.

Anyway, mine plays very sweet. I went into the shop with an open mind and was willing to plop down the extra coin for a Gibby but I liked this better than all but the most expensive Gibsons they had. And while I was willing to spend more, I didn't see the need to drop over two grand on something. It's got a nice slim neck (very important to me) and it sounds just fine with the stock pups.

A couple of caveats: They don't use their best hardware on these things, and if you're really picky and / or a heavy handed player you might want to swap the tuners for some better ones. These stay in tune pretty well, but you have to remember that I hardly ever take it out anywhere to play - I'm a studio owner, and I spend most of my life here. My guitars rarely travel anywhere except from the storage closet to the tracking or control rooms. ;) Oh, and I do think I replaced the toggle switch with a heavier duty one. The pots are the little "mini" sized ones... I'm not sure on the values, but it doesn't seem to load down (loose a lot of highs) when you roll off the volume a bit, so they're probably 500 K's, which is what you want on a LP IMO.

All in all, they're nice little guitars at a very reasonable prices. I never would have considered the purchase of a second Epi (a Casino) if I hadn't been pleased with the LP. And FWIW, the Casino has been a good guitar too.

Phillip,

Thanks for the very complete and insightful reply to my questions.

I'm happy to hear you're happy with it and the semi-hollow. I'll have to seriously consider it for my home only Les Paul sound axe.

I'm considering getting an Epi Riviera (Jorma ????? signature) in the future.

Thanks again, Dave
