there is a discussion about Robert Zinn and Chomsky going on over in the open mic forum, and after reading some passionate posts, i got to wondering what books are you reading? after you're done practicing, of course :D

me? right now i just started reading colin powell's "my american journey" and "garcia" the biography of jerry garcia. keeping the universe in balance, you know?

when i'm stuck for inspiration i usually turn to pablo neruda, ts eliot, or the tao te ching.

Right now it's Stephnn King's "Wolves of the Calla" (read them all :freak: )

But I'm also working on Forrest White's "Fender, the inside story" (Found it at half price books, very interesting insight on Leo and the ups and downs)

Dr. Taz, Ive also read all of Hillerman's stuff (have you seen the two that PBS has produced?)

I just started reading that Sunday. I've loved his Dark Tower series for years, and I'm both excited and a little disappointed that he has now finished it (the final 2 books are complete and are supposed to be released next year).

Never enough reading time! Ususally for me it's to escape. I really dig Micahael Crichton. He always does great research for his books and I always learn something.

Also like the Harry Bosch series from Michael Connelly, as well as others in the Mystery genre.

Also like the History stuff as long as it's written well.

Oh and this Forum is the best reading of all!

Call me boring...I'm waiting...

This is quite a coincidence, since, I am reading the Shakespear Tragedies again. I don't think many people realize how many modern novels are based on these amazing classics. They are not easy to read at first, but they are very much like playing guitar in that they have a rythym and all you have to do is find the groove and get in the pocket!

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken...

I'm a horribly slow reader. It takes me seemingly forever to get through a book. I find my mind wandering off and contemplating things that have nothing to do with the plot. And if I ever put a book down for a couple of days, it'll be a week before I pick it up again.

Having said that, I'm currently reading "The Da Vinci Code" and "The History of Britain".

I'm a slow reader too, I never have the time to read all the books I wan't to read.

My all-time favourite is Douglas Adams - The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy-series. Adams was a great comedian, and he's damn intelligent too. Literature's Frank Zappa.

Other favourites are all the other Douglas Adams books, Jack Kerouac - On the Road, Ken Kesey - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Robert M Pirsig - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.. Can't remember all the good books I've read just now.

I'm spoilt rotten by my local library - they specialise in music biographies and have just about everything imaginable. The last one I read was about Steve Earle. At the moment I'm reading Mao's Last Dancer, an autobiography by Li Cunxin.Inspirational story of a young boy taken from a poor village to be turned into a ballet dancer, shows what life was like in China during the Cultural Revolution. Li Cunxin was a top ballet dancer defected to the US in the 80's and now lives in Australia.Read this to your kids when they start complaining how tough things are for them.I'm tipping this one to be turned into a movie.
