Hound Dog
I recently saw Roger Fisher's (original guitarist with Heart) 1974 modified Strat for sale on Gruhn Guitar's web site! The guitar was heavily modified with carvings, LEDs in the fingerboard, and custom electronics. Roger used this on "Dog and Butterfly" album and toured heavily with it. Pictures appeared in Guitar Player mag in '79 or '80. I was curious how Gruhn got ahold of it, so I emailed Roger. He messaged back that George was helping him sell it to fund a DVD project. It is listed for $25,000...with a case of course. I always enjoyed Roger's guitar work with Heart. He had an unbelievable stage presence. I can't believe he is selling the guitar. But, maybe it doesn't play so well now. There are some great photos of the guitar on Gruhn's site: http://www.gruhn.com/ link to the guitar: http://www.gruhn.com/features/heart/EF6691.html Yum, Yum! Eat em up!
zeronyne
Is it a trick of the light or is the fretboard scalloped? "For instance" is not proof.
Grimmer
Yes, it is a scalloped fretboard. Roger also was rumored to have done the same type of mods to a Les Paul. Not to the same extent of course, we all know what an awesome guitar this is. In my opinion, I would almost take this guitar over Stevies 1, simply because it would be more suited to my playing style. It is not nearly as recognizeable as Stevies 1, but hey, nto many are. coyote
Roger was an excellent player, and heavily influenced by Blackmore (the scalloped fretboard could've told you that). It's sad that he has to sell this instrument to fund a recording. I'd always wanted to see him get into another major act; I sometimes wondered what happened to the guy that he never made the big-time again. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Caevan O’Shite
What a time capsule that guitar is! Man, I can almost smell it, all the wood and brass and the case and all, just looking at those pics. That's a total late-'70s "Prog-Rock" axe if ever I saw one! Wild carving, looks cool, kinda comfy. I wonder, was the piezo pickup used for an acoustic aproximation, or blended in for resonant effects a la Frank Zappa's similar use of piezos past? Which came first, the Fisher Strat with a humbucker and Floyd, or Eddie VanHalen's? Probably the Fisher, though I'm not implying that anybody copied anybody, just pointing out how parallel ideas pop up with the times as things change and keep staying the same... There are instruments they cannot, or will not (due to cost vs. sale price) fix, but they are few and far between. In fact, I own one of the few instruments Gruhn has bought that was considered unworthy of further repair. It's a 1920's, no name banjolin of uncertain origin. But a guitar like Fisher's would be set up to play decently, if not wonderfully. I'd go down and check it out, but I don't think they'll hand it over without a credit check. George has plenty of amazing new and vintage instruments, both on the walls and in storage. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. doc taz
I'd love to see someone reproduce that, with options available! The Floyd definitely turned me on. Don't like the scalloping, though. I wouldn't really need it if I use a Floyd. If that did happen, Number One should be free of charge to the man himself! Complete with his choice of case! sevenstring.org profile my flickr page

Gabriel E.
Anyone notice the added neck heel? Weird! This reminds me of one of Garcia's mad-hippie-scientist axes. The Floyd was not obvious in some of the pics on the site (taken during his tours with Heart). Also, the pics show a single coil at the bridge. Roger must have "updated" the thing after Heart. I'm sure Gruhn has done an excellent job. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I was blessed with that kind of money. Roger was so kind to respond to my email, I might email him back to see if we can get him to join in on some of the forum threads! Yum, Yum! Eat em up!
