Blue Strat
I'm interested in a pickup for the bridge position. I'm looking at the Carvin TBH-60 and a Duncan Performer Scorcher. According to the reviews on Harmony-Central, the Scorcher is great for it's low $30 price tag, but I'd like to hear you guy's opinions. We all know how accurate Harmony-Central's reviews are! I know a few of you guys live a short drive from Carvin stores and might have had a chance to try the TBH-60 out. What did you think? Is it trebley or bassy? If you can, could you contrast and compare it to a SD Hot Rails or JB jr? What about the Scorcher? Is it a duplicate of the Hot Rails? Thanks, BlueStrat a.k.a. Blue Strat
Let me think about it. I'd have to know how big you wanted it, what type of speaker you'd want, how you wanted it styled, open backed or sealed, etc. And I haven't ever tried to apply Tolex or tweed, so I'd have to decline if you wanted that. I can do stained, varnished, or painted cabinets though. I've got a list of Mesa Boogie cabinet dimensions somewhere. BlueStrat a.k.a. Blue Strat
NO body has tried them?!? What about the SD Performer Scorchers? I just saw these for $29 each on Musician's Friend website. If It sounds as good as the sample of the Hot Rails pickup on SD's website I might get one for my new El-Cheapo Rogue strat. BlueStrat a.k.a. Mike Gug
I wouldn't have too much of a problem going with Duncan-Designed for that Rogue. My DD in my semi-hollow ROCK! Also, I test drove a Strat with DD Invader-type pick up and what an awesome sound! I like the DD's. Great way to go, IMO, given the dollars spent on the axe. But, if it makes the guitar more functional, I guess that's an increase in value to me, whether or not it's an increase in street value. BlueStrat a.k.a. Boggs
I haven't played a Carvin TBH-60, but I think that Carvin may have some samples for comparison in their jamroom at www.carvin.com/jamroom . Worth a look, anyway. I have heard of people who have them and love them, but output characteristics are strictly personal preference, so I will never say one is "better" than the other. For the price, I think they's be worth a shot... That told me what I wanted to know. :) And they are good sounding pickups. I'm probably going with the Duncan Performer Scorcher pickup though, it's hotter and just a bit cheaper. :) BlueStrat a.k.a. baronedo
You may want to try a Bill Lawrence pickup. His Strat pickups are stacked humbuckers and are of very good quality and reasonably priced. The 290 model is the hotter version which would be better for the bridge and they sell for $40 each. I am thinking of getting 3 Bill Lawrence pups for my Strat (2 model 280's for neck and middle, and a 290 for the bridge). Harmony Central has given these pups great reviews. I suggest you check out Bill's website at www.billlawrence.com
Mudcat
The Lawrence website will really give you the low-down on pick-up design theory. Bill has some VERY strong opinions on the subject. Should look great on a black body with either white, black, or green pickup covers. I'm probably going to Guitar Center tomorrow to get that Duncan Scorcher. BlueStrat a.k.a. Well, I didn't wake up today until 12, so that didn't work! To make the most of the rest of my day I just ordered it online. BlueStrat a.k.a.
