Megadeth420247
are you supposed to pull away from the body of the guitar and also push into the guitar and spin. i saw my friend do this but it seems like if you pulled too far or used the tremelo alot you could damage your bridge. is this the case? I I mjrn
Pick one up & try it out! Most vibrato bars work by pushing toward the guitar, this releases tension on the strings, lowering the note. They can be adjusted to raise the note by pulling upward from the guitar but this is a little less stable (they can be knocked out of tune more easily). "Spinning" would be to move the bar out of the way or to unscrew the bar form the guitar. You could damage the assembly by pulling too far but you'd really have to be brutal to accomplish that. coyote
The 'proper' way to use a vibrato bar is: whatever way makes the sounds and/or visual effects you are striving to create. Remember that a guitar is merely a tool to produce sounds, sound effects, and sometimes visual effects. If the stuff you seek to create requires the gradual or immediate destruction of a guitar, it's cool (of course, it's also smart not to spend thousands of $$$ on a guitar you're gonna bash). I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. doc taz
I like the way Allan Holdsworth does it. Subtle, yet effective. On the extreme end of things, I like Slayer, or someone like Trey Azagthoth from Morbid Angel. For classic wang bar usage, listen to some Jimi Hendrix, or some Shadows (Hank Marvin). Lately, though, I've been listening to some Deep Purple with Ritchie Blackmore. He was INSANE! In his case, he practically broke the trem arm every few shows! His poor roadies had to learn to make thicker arms, which they did, but they didn't last very long... sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
