webe123
My pastor where I now go to church used to evangilize a lot with his wife in the late 60s and earyl 70s. He told me that he had a Gibson J45 that he used and she used an accordian. I asked him the other night what year he thought it was(I thought he bought it used, but I was thinking it was a 1960s model.) But he said no, it had to be a 50s model, because the guitar was 10 or 12 years old when he bought it in the 60s! So I asked him what happened to it and he said it burnt up in a fire along with all of their other possesions a few years ago. To make matters worse, they were without a home and the life insurance company (brotherhood life insurance) told him that they would not hardly give him anything NEAR what his house was worth! Not to mention that they told him a lie about the date that he should have his paperwork in and he only had 3 DAYS to file EVERYTHING that was in their home and what it would be worth on the market today...BEFORE the deadline! When he finally talked to somebody in the insurance business he knew, they told him to go and make SURE there was NO expiration date on when you had to put in your claim. Well as it turned out, they finally said that yes, there WAS a deadline, but that they would have gladly given him a extension! But another person he knew said that they had done this to people before and waited until the deadline went out and then the insurance company would NOT honor their claim! So, he never even got anythiong near what all of his furnishings, books and possesions cost. I think he said they gave him $300.00 for the guitar! If they would have given him what it was worth, he would have had a LOT more money to build a home again. If you ever have a claim with an insurance company of ANY KIND! BE SURE to check the DEADLINE for submitting a claim! He did get his claim in on time, but just barely! This was because they told him a lie to his face that there WAS no deadline! Now he has a beautiful home, thanks to the work of him and his boys, but NO THANKS to that insurance company who nearly ripped him off!
isxism
Don't get me wrong, but this doesn't sound like a sad story..in fact, it sounds like a happy ending, besides the guitar. He was very fortunate to get the extension. At least he was awarded SOMETHING! He could have been flat out on his ass playing plastic pails on a street corner for change for Christ sakes. I mean, he has a beautiful home now, right??? Some people don't apprieciate what they have until they're in a situation that ...well...no one wants to be in. I don't have a beautiful home, but I sure as hell aren't living in a refrigerator box in a friggin alley somewhere. That's what I am thankful for. So....It DOES sound like a happy ending to an unfortunate situation,,doesn't it???
BiC
I'm sure your pastor knew WHO was in control during his fiery trial, and could really care less about the material possessions the fire consumed knowing his family was spared. He's very blessed. webe123
Yeah , you both are right and I was very happy to hear no one got hurt! It just BUGGED me the way his insurance comapny treated him in the whole deal! I mean, they ask you to pay your premium on time....then you do....and when you really NEED them.... they treat you like DIRT! Just kinda made me aware of how insurance companies can be when it comes to settling a claim! But yes, it IS a happy ending, I just felt kinda sorry for him, because they gave him literally pennies on the dollar for what his home and possesions were worth and I wanted to warn everybody I could....DON'T trust insurance companies when they talk about NO deadlines! THERE IS ALWAYS A DEADLINE FOR A CLAIM and you need to find out what it is! By the way @isxism.....he did NOT get an extension.....he had 3 days before the deadline RAN OUT to put in his claim...which he did by the skin of his teeth! If he had not....my whole point was THEY WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN HIM ONE!!
