GuitarWolf
i recently began to try and finish the body of a guitar with metallic silver spray paint but it doesnt look like the paint is setting very well and even when its dry you get silver powder on your finger if you run your finger across it. So im thinking of just sanding of the paint and redoing the whole job! I was thinking of sanding all the silver paint off, actually putting on a primer (I was a little nervous about putting one on in the beginning because it tends to chip) putting on an acrylic metal finish and then applying a high gloss clear finish. so my question is, do you think redoing the job it worth it, or will the spray paint eventually dry and not smudge off? Any help I could get on this would be much appreciated, thx YtseJam your Majesty!
Djinn1973
I would sand it down and start again. The only thing is that it can be really hard to get good results from a regular spray can, I would either find a place that does auto body paint, and ask them to paint it for me or I would use the stuff from http://www.stewmac.com/ some of my friends have had good results with the stuff that they sell. So those calluses are supposed to be there; right?

Spray paint BAD Auto Paint Good... The little badger Airbrushes (with the can of freon etc) actually work pretty good if you test it out on a blank piece of wood and get the nozzle set just right.. check out the LP - it\'s a home job Lynn G
BiC
Have you considered powder coating? I think this would look extra sharp! djwayne
Sounds like you need a few coats of clear. I did this once with a bass we painted black, and you could hold a yardstick on it and read all the numbers, in the gloss. I was like a black mirror, by the time we got done with it. demarc
Wish I had some constructive comments, but I have only used either polyurethane on natural wood with a wet sand and rub down, or teak oil. That reranch site looks interesting, though. Hey lynng, nice LP! Chipotle
Go directly to reranch.com. I've used their stuff a number of times and had great results. The owner is extremely helpful and their instructions are excellent.
