doc taz
My POS plywood Applause Strat copy with the sorry trem posing as a Floyd? Long gone... I had fun with it, but when I got my Ibanez, it went bye bye. When I had it, I removed the locking nut, as it actually stayed in tune better that way. It was installed before the nut, like on some Kahler equipped guitars. The bridge 'bucker was positively tone sucking. The single coils were actually decent sounding. My dad sold it to a friend who didn't seem to mind that it was made of plywood. I bet he smashed it Pete Townshend style after playing it for a few minutes... demarc
This might sound a little cliche', but for me it is true. My first guitar(that actually would sound a chord) I got when I was 12 years old back in 1969. I walked 5 miles to the big city(Springfield, MA) and paid $20.00 for a brand new six string acoustic. US Strad was brand. Not sure where it was orignally made, though. After a year, the tail end of the neck pulled away from the body leaving a 3/4 inch gap. I pulled it back into place with a 1/4-20 carriage bolt, nut, and a few washers. I counterbored the neck side to get a good bearing surface. I played it for a few more years after that. I guess that was one of my first luthier gigs(not counting the couple of guitars I tried to make from scratch when I was 11, but those never made it to the stringing stage....) Gabriel E.
My parents bought me a Harmony Stella acoustic when I was 6 or 7. Wasn't interested. The first guitar of mine that I actually played was my beat up old Telecaster that I saved up for all summer when I was 16. Still my main guitar.
