Decent amp for a baritone guitar ??

Before I get razzed.......I'm a keyboardist 1st.....and a "hobbyist" guitarist (wannabe) 2nd...........so here's my situation............

In my travels to various music stores, I stumbled across an Alembic 6 string baritone guitar........it's beautiful........anyway with the low end (tuned to C, B, or A).......what would be a decent "clean" combo amp to reproduce the beautiful warm tones? Would a standard guitar amp w/12" be enough? Or what........

I have a Crate keyboard amp w/15"........could this be a possibility?

That's a cool find! Alembic stuff is first-rate.

I would look for a combo with a lot of clean headroom. Something like a Roland JC-120 or Fender Twin Reverb.

A 1x12 probably won't cut beyond low volumes.

You might even look into a pedal steel amp like a Peavey Nashville.

The keyboard amp will work but may sound a little sterile since keyboard amps are designed to be transparent and guitar amps are designed to impact the tone.

If you are looking for an overdriven metal sound, I'd go with an amp that's designed for 7-string guitars.

the fender vibrolux 1x15 would suit you're situation really well, except for the price tag :freak: . if you wanted to stay under 500 ducks, i'd prob go with a keyboard amp or the like. the roland ac60 would actually be a good choice. it's an acoustic guitar/vocal amp that is relly clean with a ton of headroom.

that's my two cents...

Hell, try some bass amps out as well, especially if you go for the lower of the proposed tunings for baritone axes. As you state that you intend to go for a clean sound, bass amp might sound pretty good.

Rivera makes some powered (and/or externally powered) "sub" enclosures that you add to your rig that greatly extend the low-end capabilities. They also make some full-on rigs for baritones, seven-strings, baritone seven-strings, etc. that are amongst the loftiest of the lowest, and priced to match!

Best of luck, post back to give us the bird's-eye lowdown on this caper (to quote Nick Danger, "Third Eye").

Thanks guys........

My old Crate has worked well as a bass amp before.....so...........

I'm anxious to try my key combo amp with perhaps a tube preamp.......I play mostly Jazz and "clean" chord patterns.......so my main priority is a clean sounding amp......although when I played the Alembic last night at Guitar Showcase.......it was thru a Fender Twin...... :)
