Cakewalk stuff.

So I am using Cakewalk for work. I don't know how it is considered in here, but I like the relatively easy interface for basic multitrack recording.

I'm not sure what program I should use to convert the multitrack in cakewalk to mp3.

Once you've mixed down to a stereo track there are lots of programs available to render to mp3. I use Musicmatch & it works very well. The free version also does a nice job.

The best one I've found (and I did tests on all the ones I could find) is LAME. And it's free.

ALL the other ones I tested would chop everything above 16 KHz by as much as 40 dB (!) presumably in the interests of "better compression". LAME also does this by default, but (unlike the others) it allows you to turn off this "feature".

Do a google search for 'Razor LAME' to find it.

Ironically, LAME is a nested acronym - - it stands for "LAME Ain't an Mp3 Encoder"....
