As you can imagine, this has made "jamming" over the track a near impossibility, so I've been restricted to sampling stuff and cutting it in.

Not an ideal situation, but I'm happy to have mastered the publishing issues I once had!

Can anyone recommend a good USB input soundcard for my laptop with Cubasis vst? Then I can get my teeth into this stuff!

Man that is some wild $h!t.

AlChuck I'm sort of following you, I can enable/disable the monitor in Cubasis, but I cannot find the line in on my Windows volume control.

Am I right in understanding that I need to tell my system to run the source sound straight out? Thus enabling me to monitor my signal in time with the playback, but not through the same software?

Sorry if I'm proving a little slow here, your patience and assistance are much appreciated.

Dearest Al

My soundcard is an Avance AC97 audio, I am in Sounds and audio properties in windows, and have faders for cd player, wave, etc... and I've adjusted my volume for recording, but I can't manage to make the change you suggested, could the line in have a different name? Am I just a PC loser?

Guitplayer , thanks man! I did use Schmees beefed up track, just expanded the horns and had some fun! Much appreciated opportunity! Now to sort out this damn soundcard so I can capitalise on this new found knowledge. In the meantime, I would love to get my hands on your guitar solo, tracked alone, to chop up and play around with. That is if you don't mind my butchery!

Cheers all round guys!

P.S. Tascam USB soundcard coming tomorrow! Real time overdubbing here I come! :D

Dearest? Hey, don't stand so close to me...

Let's see... try selecting Properties from the Options menu. There should be a dialog box that shows a series of checkboxes at the bottom that represent all the available hardware devices on the soundcard. If there's a Line In entry and its checkbox isn't checked, there's why you don't see the control for it in the Volume Control window. Click it and click OK, and you should see it.

Here's some instruction on this applet from Cakewalk's website:

No problemo!

Here's the guitar part only... it sounds a bit strange without the backing track!
