This would not be subject to opinion. There is indeed a guitar that has sold the most; I have no idea whether the industry keeps tabs on such things. But unless you have statistics, you're just guessing. And our guesses have zero say in what that reality is.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's probably the Fender Stratocaster in all it's various forms; highest selling of all these I'd say would be the American Standard.

But this is just a guess. There are almost certainly sales reports out there somewhere. I'm sure that the big companies keep tabs on that sort of thing so that they don't waste any money on guitars that don't sell, or over-produce guitars that they do sell. ;)

Skip...

For innovation, you probably have to hand it to Parker...

Although I'm not a big "Fly" fan, (I find them too light for my taste), there's no question that they're a radical departure from what came before...

Most other guitars are linked closely with the ideas pioneered in the 50's...

PRS, Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, Schecter, and others aren't really doing that much that's NEW...

Even 7 strings were around before 1993 (10 years ago)...

I'm still "guitplayer"!

I would agree with that. There's nothing to even argue with here. Its the best selling guitar in history, and one of the few to survive all the decades of innovation and digital technology.
Shut up and play.

yeah i wouild say strat as much as i hate to. but look at all the people who start playing guitar every year. and what do they buy, cheap strats, they are the beginners guitar. plus look at all the people who then buy better strats as they progress.
hot girls, fast cars, and even louder guitars

I took the liberty of e-mailing Musician's Friend about this. This was there response:

Thank you for your recent inquiry. Unfortunately we do not have any information regarding this. We do however sell more fender than most other companies, and the strat body style has been the most copied guitar in the history of guitars. I would have to say it was either a strat or some type of strat copy but we don't have any solid data on this.

Hope its useful. I'll try to get a hold of Fender about this as well.

Shut up and play.

Hey Guit-

totally agree about the Parker-just not enough there for me.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

I agree on the Fender Strat. Leo Fender designed this baby right. It was designed as a guitar player's guitar with innovations such as individula adjustable saddles, trem, and an ergonomic body. It's design is still cool, even by today's standards.

One minor enhancement I think Fender should explore is beveling the heel of the body at the neck joint to allow easier access to higher frets.

Fender strat. As far as innovations, it would be hard to beat Piezo pickups in electric guitars. Especially with dual outputs. It allows a guitar player to simplify and play almost anything on stage. The first I was aware of was Godin and Carver was not far behind, although I know Pete Best has been using one for awhile.

Do you mean Pete Townshend? I know he's got (at least) one like that that he uses in concert a lot.

May all your thoughts be random!

Although Fender probably sells the most, you might find that Dean is kicking a little arse in the retail biz as well. Thats my experience working in a music store, from last year.
Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in
