TuskBuffer
I've noticed on one of my cheap-o guitars that if you talk into the pickups, your voice comes through on the amp. My kids love it, but it just doesn't seem right. Is this a problem with the pickups, or would a re-wiring fix the issue? I bought this guitar to "bring back to life" in the first place, and I'm planning on re-wiring it anyway because the volume knobs crackle or cut out when they're turned. I know I've seen the reason for this problem in this forum before, but I can't remember what the reason or thread title was. Beermouse
It means that the pickups are microphonic, doesn't it? The humbucker on my MIM Fat Strat is microphonic... anytime I try to play with medium to high amounts of gain and a ... ahem... good volume, I'll get a high-pitched squeal of feedback of sorts, I guess. As I use the humbucker exclusively for distortion, this is really annoying. I'm pretty sure you have to replace the pickups to get rid of the problem, Tusk. Not 100% though, so maybe one of the gurus here can enlighten me. Off topic, Tusk, are you the only guy out there making picks out of mammoth ivory? TuskBuffer
I figured it was the pickups, so I picked up a pair of humbuckers that were originally on an Epiphone. I figure they've got to be better than what I've got now. I got 'em at a really good price, so I can't complain either way. As far as I know, I'm the only one doing what I do. I have seen Mammoth Ivory picks on eBay by others, but you're pretty much at their mercy as far as style and thickness. The difference with what I do is that I match the style you're already using, so there's nothing new to get used to (except for the superior playing ability, of course). I also do lots of custom orders, which I think is unique.
