guitar
I am looking to buy a small digital recording studio to start recording a few songs & ideas. I have been looking at the BOSS BR-532 which uses smartmedia cards to store the songs, but i am not sure how to connect the smartmedia crads to my computer. Do I need to buy a connecter lead or a smartmedia reader, or anything else? please help. I would also be grateful for any reviews of the product. cheers. dougsthang
Most likely you would need a smart card reader which is probably sold seperately. Not to sell you, but have you seen the new Digitech RPx400?. I'd take a least a peek at that one as well before you make a decision. Comes bundles with a propriotary version of Cakewalk, 32 tracks of digital recording. That's the basic idea. Check out the web site for more detail. www.digitech.com I just started working for them after being in the biz 20 years with various companies (Washburn, EMG, Beyerdynamic and Lexicon). I like what I've seen so far. Oh yah, the RPx400 also uses the Smart Card system which also needs the seperate reader for computer control. mstreck
We used to use a BOSS BR-532 for recording practices. A SmartMedia card reader is definitely necessary. It will dump the songs onto your PC in .wav format. You can then use Cakewalk to edit the tracks as necessary. When we started demo work, we recorded individual tracks from the PA mixer straight into Cakewalk on my laptop. I would then mix and add effects using Cakewalk Sonar. The BOSS quickly became a $400 paperweight. I'm not trying to talk you out of the BOSS, but if you already have a computer (or, even better, a laptop), you could just get Cakewalk and you'd be all set! If I were you, I'd spend the $400 on a Digitch GNX3.. in fact, I just did. The GNX3 also has a digital recorder that also uses SmartMedia cards, but it is foot controlled and a LOT easier to use than the BOSS BR-532. Right now, you can get a GNX3 plus a SmartMedia card reader for under $400 at Music123.com (new B stock). I hope this helps!
