Stan_Frenchie Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, Originally posted by threshold I look at the Variaxe as a good modeler but if you take into consideration the overall system when joined with say a POD Pro, or XT it does'nt measure up to what Roland's VG-88 system can do. For example doing pitchshifting for individuals strings, & that sort of thing. In areas like that Roland is years ahead of Line6. I mean Line6 is basically doing what Roland started doing years ago but, trying to better Roland here, & there. I do agree with that, a VG-88 and a Yamaha GK2 p.u. give you much more than a Variax and a POD given than you take some time to tweak the VG-88, as a bonus you can use the guitar you're familiar with. Variax + POD = instant gratification but at the cost of a way less powerful setup, VG-88 has a stepper learning curve but it rewards you with a much better result. The choice is yours. Bests. Stan. Love + Learning + Music = LIFE !!! (some money welcomed as well ...)
Jotown Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I already have a VG-88, but I am always looking for more guitar tones. What I actually intend to do is get a Variax and install a GK2HA pickup. That way I would have the best of both worlds, and I could play them simultaneously. Just waiting to hear back from Line6 to see if installing the Roland pickup will void the Variax warranty. Thanks for the tips. Jotown:) "It's all good: Except when it's Great"
Threshold Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Jotown, Sounds like a good idea(best of both worlds = VG88 & Variaxe - Combo). When you get your system together, why not start a new thread with subject heading to that effect. Threshold.

dondottcomm Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 Played one and didn't like it..felt..inexpensive..Allright dammit cheap..soundwise it was so so..JMHO's What? you mean I can take this block of fine swiss and make a song??...COOL! Don
The Bear Jew Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Played one this weekend. I can see how some foks would dislike it. Seems like a pretty cool idea... and it works decently for most of the things I'd want it to do. The banjo and acoustic sounds are nice, and the other stuff is convincing, too. I enjoyed messing with it. I'd use it in the studio for some of the more "out there" tones, but I'd probably leave it there... it's just too corny-looking to play onstage in front of people. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
doc taz Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 At least if Line 6 ever makes this stuff available as a kit, it might stand a chance of selling more units. The guitar they're using blows goat turds IMHO. I want mine on a Gibson Flying V or BC Rich guitar! sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
