john_l
First, I know nothing about electrical stuff beyond what it takes to do basic things, e.g. plug the guitar into the amp, turn on the lights, jumpstart a car, etc. I have a tube amp I like and generally play with nothing between it and my guitar (the way God intended for things to be). However, I have fallen into a gig that requires (egads) effects and amps I don't have and don't really want to own. To this end, I have acquired a pod2. Running it thru the effects loop of the amp (hr deville 2x12), the preamp tends to color the already amp models coming out of the pod and I don't always get the tone I'm looking for. Fender indicates the possibility of plugging a "dummy" plug into the fx send and the pod into the fx return, which would have the effect of cutting out the preamp. Alas the part they suggest does not exist outside of the text of the manual. Can I just get a jack, insulate the end (where the cable would go) and plug it into the fx send? I'd just try it, but don't want to smoke my amp....
Jamesian
John_l, The Pod should be patched in between your guitar and your Amp, with the Amp set clean and with neutral tone settings. Also the Pods AIR switch should be set to Direct/Amp. Putting the Pod in the effects loop means your Amp's pre-amp signal is hitting the Pods input which could damage it. The Pod manual should give you more detailed info on the different set-ups you could use. Hope this helps. J.
Prague
You say you are running the POD through the effects loop. Okay, now unplug the Input to the POD and plug your guitar into the same place. Shouldn't be any problem. Use the Output Level control on the POD at about half-way (start at zero) and you should be fine.
