WaterMan
I'm looking for a "clean" mod pedal with some flexibility and true bypass. Does anyone have suggestions as to best chorus and rotary effects?
Caevan O'Shite
(I thought this was gonna be a question about key changes!) You'll get a lot of miles out of the T.C. Electronics Stereo Chorus/Flanger plus Pitch Modulator, a little a.c. powered pedal with a long name. Eric Johnson's favorite for years, and mine, too! Transparant, clean, thick REAL LIVE ANALOG chorus, flange and somewhat "rotary" p.m. sounds with a powerful variable "boost" available. Cool variable phase cancelation (but the p.m. dissapears) when deliberately mixing the stereo outputs of the p.m. effect to mono; use the "blend" knob to vary. For a real "rotary" effect pedal, go with a Korg Toneworks G4. Of course, there's a lot going on under the hood of the Line 6 units, but I haven't tried or owned any; they're supposed to be pretty good, though. -k Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do? ~ Caevan James-Michael Miller-O'Shite ~ _ ___ _ Leprechaun, Esquire _ ___ _
michael saulnier
I have a Line6 Delay pedal and really like the models and sound. I haven't played with the modulation emulator, but it does have true bypass and plenty of options. For rotary effects you might try the FullTone Dejavibe 2 thingy. It is also full bypass I believe. My brother has one of the earlier models and really likes it. But it only does the UniVibe thing... not an all in one unit. FullTone does make other units including a chorus/flange unit that's full bypass. guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! Check out my music if you like... http://www.michaelsaulnier.com
WaterMan
Thanks. It's narrowing down to TC and Line 6. Guess I'll have to do some side-by-side comparison. Is it just me, or does it seem impossible these days to go into a "Guitar Store" and experiment in a controlled setting that doesn't have multiple morons or an overpowering ambient noise factor. Seems like the only thing to do is buy a few, take 'em home to test, and then take back the ones you don't like.
Caevan O'Shite
BTW, WaterMan- I don't know if I could call the T.C.'-unit a "true bypass" switcher, but the fidelity when the effect is on or off is second to none, with no bleed-over of the effect or dulling of attack or tone, and the active (flat-"hi-fi"/neutral, "clean-boost") pre-amp and stereo outputs are always on. In my oppinion, this can be a very good and useful thing. I found that when using any kind of modulation effects onboard a multieffects unit, the sound was absolutely supercharged when fed by the T.C.'s chorus as well! Especially when running in stereo. -k Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do? ~ Caevan James-Michael Miller-O'Shite ~ _ ___ _ Leprechaun, Esquire _ ___ _
fantasticsound
I'm unaware what a TC Electronic chorus pedal costs these days, but if you want as high or higher quality, and price is no object, I'd suggest comparing the TC with a Carl Martin. Carl Martin makes some of the most incredible pedals.. but they're expensive. The CM chorus, from several people I've spoken to, is warmer than the TC. I had a touring guitarist demonstrate how the CM Compressor pedal could be pushed to extremes with no pumping sound, typical of high compression. I really want one! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
